Chicago 4G Coverage/EVO

Just starting being able to pick up a 4G signal in Great Lakes/North Chicago on the Naval base. Very good signal and amazing speeds while outside, pretty much disappears once I move inside anywhere that's not near a window.

Transferring to San Diego at the end of this week though, so it''s gonna be a while before I get to see 4G again.

figures in a Chicagah thread the talk would turn to food!!

In the Burr Ridge/Timberlake area, 4g is decent outside the house, in and out inside the house, but with 50/10 comcast service in the house, and wireless going, speeds are always great in the house!
I was concerned coming back to Sprint, after dumping them due to horrible Customer Service 5 years ago, but back then, and even now, I have NEVER dropped a call...
Plus, their customer service has been wonderful to me this time around, and I always get someone who speaks ENGLISH as their first language!!

You are usually pretty good, unless somehow you get to tele sales, there customer service has surely did a 360 when i thought about leaving hold times seemed to be 60+ mins, I've been with them 10 years, now i have no problems calling them, and geting someone quick, and that speaks english

I was in Lake Zurich today, and OMG the 4g worked very well...

I thought there was something wrong with my phone,.. I live in roselle, Il,
and the sprint and the clear maps, say im in EXCELLENT indoor coverage..
But NO GO... if i stand out in my yard, and hold the phone above my head.. i get 1 bar of 4g.... and it keeps dropping..

there is a fix for the 4G dropping issue..I found it over at XDA forums, but I dont remember where...

Live in NE Streamwood. i pull 1 to 2 bars of 4g all day long at home. typically downloads are 3.5 megs, although last night i did hit 5.

work a mile or so south of woodfield and can't pull anything in my office.

4g is useless on a train or in a moving car.

quite frankly, overall, i am disappointed in the usability of 4g. i'm going to ask for a discount.

LOL@ request for discount!!

Yeah, 4G isn't quite ready for prime time yet, even in Chicagoland..
If you are stationary, in an area with strong signal, its wonderful.
I can get it in some rooms in my house in Burr Ridge, and pretty consistently in my yard, but in a car around here, once you get away from I55, its kind of iffy..
And, having it in my house is a waste too, since I have comcast 50/10 internet, and a wireless N router that I get 18 megs or more downloads on my phone!!
4G will br great in a year or so, but right now, its not a deal maker OR a deal breaker..
People who are so anxious for it will be disappointed when it first comes to their towns..

50 megs....too bad it's crapcast.

i still went ahead and cancelled my home internet. i've been 100% evo for the last 3 days. no real complaints. the only issue i've had is netflix movies are slightly lower quality when viewed online, but i don't watch it much so not a deal breaker.

i can't justify spending 170 for phone service, and then adding cable internet on top of it. i've already just about doubled my communication bill be getting a pair of evo's.

I've been pretty lucky with comcrap lately; I made a contact at corporate in Philly, and when I have problems now, I call him, and within minutes my issues are addressed.

Yeah, by the time you add up home phone, cell phone, internet, and cable, the total spent per month is getting out of hand. I want to dump my home phone line, but, if you break a "package" with comcrap, you end up paying more for 2 services, than you would with 3..

i paid my bill via bill pay with my bank and comcast lost it. they took the money but didn't credit my account. faxed a copy of my bank statement and they still couldn't fix it. i dropped them right then and there. i'd rather do without than do business with them.

i've been with wide open west for the past few years for internet/phone, service/pricing is good.
