Chicago 4G Coverage/EVO

I am staying at the Inn of Chicago on Ohio St. and I get 4G coverage on all floors. I'm only working a few blocks away over at the Marriott but I get very good coverage all the way there.

Edit: I get about 4.5Mbps download and around 1 - 1.5Mbps upload

Here in M'ville Crown Point area we are just outside of the 4G area and 3G (4miles too far east) on this phone is slightly better than the old standard DSL speed. Good thing I'm mainly using my phone at home or work where I'm using wifi. Hopefully the coverage area will be similar to the tv and radio area, blanketing the entire shoreline from Kenosha to St. Joe Michigan.

Hello Neighbors, who would have thought 2 users posting here a few mins from me, Im in romeoville 4g is bad here get it sometimes, but
I drive alot, Schaumburg, elgin, st charles, alot of chicago gets a really good 4g signal dont remember where else i was trying it at, the dan ryan got a decent signal most of the time as well

Palatine 3G coverage is good, 4G is a different story Good in one spot of the house and 2 feet away there isn't any signal.

3G near work, Roscoe and California is Great and 4G inside and out of the building is useable and fun.

Get a decent 4g in arlington heights though, also I would hate to work at roscoe and california, id be eating at hot dougs several times a day.

I'm in Palatine too and haven't had much 4G here, but 3G is fine.

I'm on the far southwest end of Elgin, and my neighborhood's coverage map looks basically like swiss cheese: vague coverage at best, which improves as I head east of Randall Road.

Here in my office in Schaumburg, my cube is about 3 feet from a stable 4G signal damnit. Works great if I don't want to have access to my phone during the day, since I can just leave it plugged in across the office on silent. ;) However, 3G coverage is rock solid everywhere.

I live in the South Loop and work in Willowbrook. I get incosistent 4G coverage indoors. Using the Speedtest.net app, I typically get 1-2.5 Mbps down and .6-.8 Upload. Indoors or out.

The only time I see faster speeds is when I am connected to Wifi.

Speeds are slower downtown. When at home or at work I usually use Wi-Fi. That being said, having to pay an extra $10 /month is a little ridiculous.

I love the Evo though, but I am coming from the Moto Q.

Wow, nobody has replied from the southland yet! Allow me to be the first. I live in Park Forest, in a place where, according to Sprint's map, I should be able to get good reception, even inside, with 4G. But even outside my house I am lucky to get 1 bar, and inside it is a rarity (to be fair, I live in a brick townhouse). *quick aside - the autocomplete tried to change "townhouse" to "outhouse." Glad I caught that! *back to our reguparly scheduled programming. Speedtest.net usually measures 3G at .6 to 1.1 and 4G not much better, even outside here.
However, in Homework, in a parking lot on Halsted, I had a strong 4G signal and speedtest.net measured almost 3 megs. So it would appear that, for some reason, signal strength can make a difference in speed, at least when you're dealing with 1 barely-there signal. I hope they improve this, as my goal was to ditch Comcast next month upon buying my new (brick) house in Chicago Heights.

I'll check the 4g coverage tomorrow in the Mckinley Park area (Kinley park )...... :)
Archer and Western area.

Will post the results tomorrow.

Btw happy fathers to all.

I was thinking the same thing. So, let me have your back on this. I'm in Matteson and the nearest tower to me (I think) is in Olympia Fields. I fluctuate between 0-1 bars of 4G when I'm in the house. However, when I'm outside, I get better bars...mostly 2-4. I work in the Park Ridge/Rosemont area, however, and I get full bars when I'm outside almost everytime. The best download speeds I've seeen in either area with full bars is just under 4 Megs.

I live in Schaumburg area and the coverage is pretty good, 4G works fine outside my house but inside im lucky to get a signal, so i just leave it by a window. Ive noticed the 4G working as far out as Gilberts/Elgin area then the 3G cuts in but the 3G seems way better on this phone then my old Pre. 4G is great downtown, just not so much in the buildings. I was downtown for the Hawks Parade friday and the signal was good, but it was hard to get a connection out because of so many people around you.

Also in schaumburg, Clear works good (usb dongle)

sorry for the delay in response. lots of work has limited my time on here. but last i heard there where around 100-500 planned to be build EOY back in january. A certain unamed company had issues paying bills, which delayed the process in the suburbs. I will try and find out the most recent build out plans.

Live in the schaumburg/hoffman estates area and can't get a 4G signal, even when outside. I'm thinking it might be something wrong with my phone. Kinda hope so, so i can just exchange it for a different that doesn't have the 4G and screen problem like mine.

Oh and for you Hot Doug's fans...I'm sorry but Gene and Judes is the best around :D

No way! You north siders are nuts! Although G & J ain't bad.(best in schaumburg area for sure!) I swear ever since I moved to schaumburg I've had to school my new(er) friends on what real food is. Some of them didn't even know what ricobene's or connie's was  stuck on their second rate lou malnati's & rosati's. Large chains in general lack quality IMO. Except maybe portillos, I love their beef. Dogs ain't bad either.

Hmm hot dogs... the original maxell street station, near halsted and maxwell has an awesome hot dog. Not really 'chicago style', but still awesome & unique. Especially after drinkin' it up at morgans or jr's.

The best dogs are served...... at wrigley field with a cold brew. Yeah you heard me.

Anyone ever been to chiggy's? They got a pretty badass chicken gyro, and you can grab a cold brew to boot.

Oh and umm, 4G loud & strong at golf & roselle. (Boston market)

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

I've lived out in this area my whole life and have been to all these places. Gene and Judes is not even in the schaumburg area. You gotta drive a good 20 minutes and is still the best in my opinion. Hope your not one of those people that like ketchup on their hot dog. If you ask for ketchup at G&J they will seriously laugh at you.

I agree with you on that pizza part. People don't really know what good pizza is out here. Renaldi's has the best pizza but you gotta go to the city. Out here Jets pizza is pretty damn good.

Ya I've been to chiggy's and they do have some badass gyros.

Portillo's beefs are a gift from god haha

You ever been to Zippys? All of their food is pretty good.

Golf & Roselle is right by my house. I guess my Evo is messed up cause I can't connect to 4G

Well this was tested with clear usb modem. So YMMV.

And as for pizza, you absolutely HAVE to try a place called napoli's. Its in rolling meadows or arlington hieghts. Like, rt 14 & rowling rd(303 rowling rd) man its worth the 10/15 minute drive to pick it up. Coming from the south side I'm pretty picky on pizza, but its the best(thin crust) I've found out here. The crust is good,(could get a bit better but still good) and the sauce is awesome, they load on toppings & cheese. The slices(hand tossed) pizza is alright, althoug there's entirely too much crust.

As for zippy's, its aight. Much better options though in the immediate area. Surprisingly I do like hot dog exress right by jewel for a quick meal as opposed to the bk/kfc/wendys that's over there.

You ever try BBQ hut? Always been curious about that place but never pulled the trigger

Oh and as for pizza in the city, trust me on this, you have to try phils pizza on halsted street in bridgeport. Fan-freakin-tastic. My absolute fav in the city.

Honestly never tried BBQ hut and I've lived out here for 20 years :o Hot dog express is pretty decent for a good hot dog close to home.

I'll definitely try napoli's. I love a good thin crust.

Ya Zippy's is just one of the places you go when you get sick of the regular BK KFC type stuff. I recommend trying their thin crust with italian beef.

Oh by chance are you Italian? I ask because I know how we Italians love food and love to talk about food hahaha

Yep. Lived in little Italy in bridgeport too.

I get one bar indoors and full bars outdoors in the Addison/Elston area. Have not been up to my office in Northfield (on the road again) in a few weeks so I will find out how good it is there tomorrow.

I just had a business trip in chicago for the last 3-4 days. I was out at the O'Hare airport area the whole time. My 4G coverage was AMAZINGLY fast. Getting 3Mbps-4Mbps even indoors at the hotels. River Road/Higgins/Bryn Mawr area.

ok yes gene and judes is better than hot dougs, the fries at gene judes is much better, now on pizza, theres sorrentos they have awsome pizza up at harlem and diversey, theres another one near elston, diversy cant think of the name of it if.

Portillos is overpriced, and small portions!!

Man I miss chicago food, not too much good around romeoville area
