Chinese Android Notification

Lurker
Hello,

Im new to this android phone and im not sure if its safe to install those android chinese app that's showing in my notification screen.

They have the android icon but their wordings are in chinese so i have no idea what they are, if they r part of the OS(updates) or not.

Every time i tap those android notifications, it tries to download something. I just simply power off my phone for now to stop the download since there is no cancel option. There is an X on top of it but every time i x it, it brings me to my home screen and like nothing is happening but when i go back to the notification screen its showing its downloading something.

The reason why im here...looking for answer whether they r safe or not since they have the android icons.

Thanks for any answer

Hello nick121 welcome to AF. :)

Post a screenshot if you can, and I should be able to tell you what it is as I can read Chinese.

What device have you got there, make and model, is it a Chinese one? It could be an update, or it could be some ad crap trying to install itself.

Hi Mike

My phone is Cybercell cya-43
android ver 4.04
baseband ver maui.11amd.w11.50.sp.v17
2012/05/05

kernel version
3.0.13
linux-server-build2@linux-server-build2-desktop#1

Sorry dont know how to take screen shot with this phone but i know it has a scrn shot cuz i accidentally manage to do it one time but not sure how did it happen.

Anyway, even if u can read one of them, i still have 2 or 3 more that pops up in my notification screen...all with android icons

As far as apps are concern, i have those that comes with the phone, plus google play and airpush detector

if this is a chinese phone then those android apps could be updates.

just wanting to be sure that only Android can use the android icon and no other apps uses the little green robot

thanks

Welcome - Cybercell Although they have the TLD for France, they're definitely Chinese, with offices in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. So it could very well be updates as they're showing the Android icons, but you really want to make 100% sure that you're not installing something less savoury that may have been pushed to the device. If you find you can't make a screen shot, can you grab another camera and take a couple of pics?

Anther thing, if the updates are only in Chinese, there maybe some additional directions and options you might have to follow, which could be in Chinese. I don't know this phone, and different manufacturers might have various update procedures, like the device's recovery.

could be Airpush spam, though i thought that was extinct these days?
It's only extinct from Google Play.

This is a Chinese phone. Airpush and other obnoxious ad practises are very much alive.

That's not Tux, this is QQ, and he comes from Shenzhen. And anything that even smells of Tencent, may have all kinds of ad shit going on with it.

It could just be an app update, and not spam or firmware at all.

Can't even go on the icon with these things sometimes, although it's showing an Android icon, could be a firmware update, could be a dating ad. Need to know what the Chinese says. Someone had one last week, notifications in Chinese, it was showing a Batman logo, and that actually was a legitimate firmware update.

Hey Mike

no luck in taking a screen shot plus i accidentally powered off so the chinese notification is gone. maybe i'll have a better luck next time i get the notification

but like u said....

"Can't even go on the icon with these things sometimes, although it's showing an Android icon, could be a firmware update, could be a dating ad. Need to know what the Chinese says. Someone had one last week, notifications in Chinese, it was showing a Batman logo, and that actually was a legitimate firmware update."

even if i post a screenshot of one notification (which may be a legitimate app update) how can i trust the rest of the Android chinese notification as u aptly pointed out that it could be a dating app or some ad stuff.

what im looking for is a peace of mind that a company using the Android Icon can be trusted and Android itself would go after companies that misuse their icons (it would be the first that a company would let a sub-contractor use their logo, usually a sub-contractor have their own logo).

After all the icon does represent the company as an official logo of the company and it shouldn't be misrepresented.

Nick, they can use any logo they like, it can be completely meaningless when it comes to Chinese Androids. Piece of mind is being able to read Chinese. ...you'll often have piece of mind with Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony, Huawei, ZTE, or other reputable maker

Batman logo with Chinese text. That's a legit firmware upgrade notification for this Chinese tablet. The OP thought it might have had a virus.

Might be worth having a read of our forum sticky....

batman firmware update? Holy Hijinks!

....and I figured the old ActiveSync icon used for the Sync active notification in Android 2.2 was weird...I hadn't seen ActiveSync's little logo since my old HP Jornada. my first Android device was using 2.1

lol

kk i downloaded screenshot easy, it does makes life easier since u can turn on different triggers, one of which is just to shake the phone and it takes a screenshot, my favorite trigger.

My android devices just use iOS's style of screen shot, hit home and power at the same time until you hear the camera shutter sound. Of course, I only use Samsung devices so that might not work for everyone.

腾讯视频 which means "Tencent video".... v.qq.com A streaming video service.

Tencent trying to push their app through and this is not a firmware update.

I posted this earlier...
"That's not Tux, this is QQ, and he comes from Shenzhen. And anything that even smells of Tencent, may have all kinds of ad shit going on with it."

Does the phone have any Chinese apps and services pre-installed in it? Say if the phone came with Tencent video, this might be a software update for their app.

The pre-installed apps are all in english and i downloaded a few apps including airpush detector. But, the android notifications have been there since i got the phone and activated.

So u could be right, that one or some of the pre-installed apps are chinese in origin since the phone is chinese manufactured (it just makes sense) and might be pushing those apps.

Thanks for confirming my suspicion. I'll just save some money and upgrade the phone. Was looking for a cheap phone for work and T-Mobile recommended that phone.

For now, ill just power off the phone whenever i get those kind of notifications.

thanks again.
