I was really intrigued by both apps. Fact is, the default app is WOOING slow.

I installed both and played around abit. At first, i was stuck on Handcent because of the contact pictures in the main list. Then, I realized that was a setting I just needed to enable on Chomp.

What put me over the edge was Chomp's ease of attaching picture and video messages. I couldn't figure out a way to create video messages in HC.

Question: is it possible to get the pop-up messages on Chomp?
 
Found a work-around for the time being. I left both apps on my phone. I disabled notifications on HC so that it basically hides in the background, but I left the pop-up window on.

Essentially, I'm using HC's pop-up for basic replies and Chomp for initiating and more complex testing/MMS.
 
I usually like to stick with my first choice... Handcent. Tried it, loved it and got used to it. Tried Chomp and just love Handcent much more.
 
Is there a way to search through text messages with Chomp? I am thinking of purchasing it. But if it doesnt have this feature I will not. And it is back to handcent.

Actually, you don't need to purchase either one, they are both free to download and use.

That said, what do you mean by "search through"?
 
I am disappointed with the short, low tones that the stock app provides. No way I could wake up to that if someone "pages" from work. Does Handcent or Chomp (or both) allow me to set a repeating or really loud obnoxious tone?

The stock app takes about 10 seconds to open some of my threads. handcent is pretty much instant. good stuff. plus, the ads on chomp are reallyraellyreally annoying and i'm cheap. plus i don't like how it just clones the iphone sms app which isn't really that desirable for me.

Hey adrynalye, I read through that exchange. Now, I could be WAY off base, but a thought occurred to me that you may have taken his answer to you wrong. The reason I say that is I'm thinking what he was telling you was he couldn't do it because it (the ad-free change) is tied to your phone. When I dropped mine and had the hardware physically replaced my phone was no longer recognized in their database so I had to pay the $3 or whatever it was again. The way I understood it was when you go through the donate link, it matches your phone to the contribution, and even with a hard reset as long as your esn doesn't change you still are ad-free.

Now maybe he *was* just being a jerk to you, and if so that is unfortunate, but I can see how there is the possibility that it was a miscommunicaton.

There are ways to give a free copy if he wanted to do it. I don't think he was being a jerk BUT someone fixing a problem that could cost you a bunch of buys IS WORTH 1 free copy.
 
I wasn't looking for a lifetime fee license, or whatever. Just a token of thanks, especially since Chomp's biggest issues with stability in the past (and present?) have been the gratuitous amount of ads. During the time I helped the dev, his reviews were tanking because it was crashing for everyone who downloaded the new version. Thats why I helped and I thought it would have gone both ways.

It would have been easy enough to just email me an ad free copy that could never be updated and I would have been cool with it.

If its one thing I have learned in the Android community is the typical attitude is, "take, take, take."

I found bugs for the devs of Pocketshield when I was using my Omnia. I did it without any expectations of them other than to help fix it because I liked it.

They gave me a free lifetime license, which costs a lot more than what the donate version of Chomp costs. Unfortunately, I don't see a lot of generosity in the Android community.
 
I tried hancent for a bit but I hate the look of it... so i went back to the default.

Sorry but apple can keep their childish bubble looking interface, and I did not like the other views in handcent either.

Oh I agree wholeheartedly that adynlane deserved a copy, no question about that.
 
Is there any way to stop handcent from showing all of my social network friends when making a new txt message.. i unchecked the show social contacts option in the setting but then it doesn't show ANY contact.. I'd like it to just show my phone contacts...
