Handcent is not bad ,i have not tried chomp.? how do you FWD Msgs in Handcent.

Long press on the TEXT portion of the message and a menu will pop up. If it is a picture message, you cannot long press the pic portion. It causes a different menu to show up.

I was a handcent fan and just switched to Chomp and got the paid version. I get lots of pics sent to me so needed the mms. Love it.

Open your stock message app, go to menu, settings, received notification, and uncheck box with green check mark in it.

Does Chomp perform well for us "serious" texters? I've got a 3500 message thread that will barely even open in the stock messages app, making that app entirely worthless.

Handcent opens that thread instantly.

I have Advanced Task Killer installed....and I've noticed that, even though I have unchecked all of the tickmarks in the stock OEM messaging system and the icon removed from my screen....that when I open ATK to see what is running....the "Messages" app (which was what I would see when I was just using the stock) is running. Handcent seems to shut down (or disappear from the list of running apps) when not in use.

Is this just how Android operates? Or is that just how ATK operates? (just seeing that A "messaging app" is running to receive texts and so forth)

I use Handcent and really like it, but anyone else having problems with handcent vibrate patterns? I set the default settings to a custom pattern but it doesn't change any thing, I have to do each contact individually. Anyone know why this is?

Haven't tried Chomp yet, but if I cant fix this I may give it a try.

Ah, I answered my own question. I tried Chomp a few moments ago, but couldn't find an option to disable the "show earlier messages" button.

For that reason, I have to stick with Handcent. Shame because Chomp looked more polished.

How do you disable showing earlier messages in Handcent?

You can just disable showing the earlier messages BUTTON, which may do the opposite of what it sounds like you want. Disabling the button just shows ALL the messages all the time.

See, I have a 3500 some odd messages conversation and occasionally want to look at an older message. Here are the ways I can do that:

• (unacceptable) stock Messages app: takes about a minute to even open the conversation, and then lags like hell while scrolling.

• (unacceptable) Chomp: opens the conversation immediately, but to access the older messages I have to hit the button. Repeatedly. And I'd have to hit it quite a few times to show over 3,000 messages.

• (unacceptable) Handcent with the "show earlier messages" button enabled: same as Chomp. Lag free but would take a ton of button pressing to see really early messages.

• (BINGO!) Handcent with "show earlier messages button DISABLED: it just shows the entire conversation, like the stock Messages app, but somehow does it lag-free. Success!

Here's how to disable the button though, if that's still what you'd like to do:

Settings > Custom Styles > Bubble Settings > Others > uncheck Show Earlier button

For those that DO like having a "show earlier messages" button, Chomp is the way to go. It actually shows SMS and MMS in chronological order. When you scroll up in Handcent, it eventually just shows EVERY MMS from the entire conversation regardless of when they were actually sent/received.

I'm a fan of the stock app, I don't really like bubble style texting. The other styles in handcent just seem sub par to the plain htc one

Is there any way to add contact pictures to the texts if you have it in "Android" mode for handcent? That's the only thing bothering me right now, it is definitely way faster though.

How much does it cost to get rid of the ads in Chomp? I do not have my DInc yet and trying to get a feel for how much I may be spending.

With Handcent, I'm having a hard time deleting a thread with alot of messages in it. Everytime I try to do it, it does a force close. Even tried going into the stock messaging and deleting from there but it does the same thing.

Anyone else with the same issue?

I don't want to delete my thread with a lot of messages. Otherwise I'd try. :(

Agreed this is my only issue. In main inbox it shows everyones contact picture. But once you click on someone it shows all there text but doesnt have there picture next to their texts1
