Class action causes Google to block Android accounts?

ktchong

Android Enthusiast
An attorney office contacted me and inquired if I would like to be a part of their class action against Google over the 15-minute refund window. I had purchased a few apps that took over 15 minutes to download, install and initiate. Later those apps had turned out to be incompatible with my Android device. Unfortunately, I could not get a refund; (I know Apple does not allow refund; but iPhone does not have market fragmentation problem like Android does, and iPhone apps are always compatible.) I posted and vented on a couple forums and said someone should sue Google over their ridiculous refund policy. Honestly, I am more interesting in forcing Google to change its refund policy, and hope that lawsuits will accomplish that purpose. I wonder if I am involved in the class action, will Google retaliate by blocking my device from all the apps I have purchased?

I do not think that Google would do that as it would come back to hurt them worse than anyone else. It would be a very poor strategic move on their part, and I am not even sure that it would be legal.

I know nothing about Google's internal decision making, but I would think that blocking the accounts of people involved in a class action would be such an obvious PR fail that I'd hope nobody would seriously consider it.

There is absolutely no legal basis for a class action lawsuit. Google's refund policy is their policy, and you and everyone 100% agreed to it before making a purchase. Nobody forced you to purchase from the Play store, and there are plenty of other ways to purchase apps on Android.

That being said, there are many places who don't even offer a refund policy/period. Google doesn't have to offer a refund window. Even if you were successful, all you'd do is get the refund window taken away completely.

no way to say it better than that. I'm sure people would like to have a longer time limit however that can be accomplished by never stepping foot in a court room. Signed Petitions speak volumes to corporations like google who is in the marketing business. Laws suites is one of the downfalls of this great country everyone want to sue someone no one wants to own up to their part. In the desperate attempt to neglect our responsibility we have taught our children to do the same and showed them well they owe me. We have be come a sue happy nation infatuated with making lawyers rich in the name of irresponsibility.

Like others have said I woulsnt give that lawyer a second of your time. Nothing is going to come of the lawsuit. It'll probably be thrown out

As stated above since everyone agreed to Google's terms to use the market you also agreed to the 15 minute refund window. But as usual agreement means nothing anymore. Some skank lawyers see a way to make a quick buck and people are ready to hop on the bandwagon.

If I was Google I would try my damdest to find out every single person involved in said lawsuit and accidentally permanently delete every single bit of their account info including any and all purchases.

Let's just pretend this goes through - how much are we talking about here that will go to the class action members?

I've been involved in several class action suits (it's kinda hard to exist these days without being roped into someone's CA at least once every other year). The most I ever got out of one was about 1% of whatever has been disputed.

The winners in these things are invariably the lawyers who grab gob loads of settlement money to pay for the sometimes rather pointless action.

If this ever did to come fruition I personally can't you seeing getting any more than a couple of bucks as a result - and that's assuming the average member of the suit may have spent say $200 on purchases over the last year or so.

I for one don't feel it's worth any aggro and hassle that's involved in this sort of game. Lawyers get paid enough without me contributing to their next payment on the lease of their latest BMW...
