Clean ESN?

I just received a brand new Droid Incredible, SKU ADR6300VW2, as an insurance replacement from Asuron. I already purchased a Samsung Fascinate, which I plan on keeping. Is there a way for me to tell if I have a clean ESN on the Inc without opening the package? Thanks.

(Press 1, then 2, then #, then 5)
Ask if phone is on a "Negative" file (Negative file means Non-Pay or Reported Lost/Stolen) Sometimes only Tech Support can tell you this.

If the phone came from Asuron, why would you be worried about it? I've never heard of them sending out ESN compromised phones...

and if it came from Asuron why would you be worried about calling Verizon?

Somebody asking "is my ESN is clean" doesn't sound right...

It's like somebody asking "is my car's VIN clean". The only reason you should even be asking is if it's NOT YOUR CAR.

About the only ways an ESN gets blacklisted is if the phone is reported Lost/stolen, the account goes into delinquency, or there is an insurance claim made on it.

In ANY of those cases ownership of the phone reverts to VZW or the insurer (ok, minor exception if the phone is lost and then recovered by the owner, without filing an insurance claim. But then they should be able to just get verizon to unblacklist the phone). So if the ESN is bad, the phone is in all likelihood STOLEN.

If it's in an original box, it should have the MEID on the box (I'm guessing even if it doesn't have the factory box, if it's from assurion it will have it on the box)

(ok, I'll admit I'm might just be grumpy from doing Partial Differential EQNs for the past hour and a half. The OP might just be unnecessarily thorough with this.)

I wasn't sure if Asuron locked the ESN to my account or something. That's why I asked. I'm planning on selling the Inc and just wanted to be sure there wouldn't be an issue.

OK, I decided I was in fact being overly grumpy. I was really annoyed by the other recent ESN question: "Um, yeah...I have this phone here, and I like bought it from someguy. And like the ESN is all bad and stuff. Can I use that on like Verizon and stuff?" That one bugged me, along with a user review I read yesterday blasting Asurion for having the gall to make somebody trying to defraud them (by keeping both the phone he lost, and then found, and it's warranty replacement) go through the phone tree.

So anyways, I didn't intend to sound that jerky, just a little jerky.

Sell it for parts. Fully functional phone - bad ESN. They are all over eBay. Make sure the buyer knows the phone cannot be activated on Verizon. It may be able to be flashed to Cricket.

Agreed. Call Asurion, and tell them you found it. They might let you keep it, depending on how long it was missing. If they do, you can have them de-blacklist the phone. Either way, that is the ONLY legal thing you can do.

They can take the ESN off negative file if you're the owner of the original phone. They can match it up to your account.
