Help Clearing internet data

mightyy

Newbie
Warning: I am fairly "un-techy" so you'll have to excuse my limited understanding.

Alright, so I have an htc desire - running android 2.1-update 1. (I know, don't shoot me, I've been trying to work out how to update it to froyo but everytime I try and check for system updates it tells me I'm updated. :( driving me insane!) It's not rooted.

In manage applications, it says that "Internet" is using up 32MB - highly frustrating as it means that I periodically find myself having to uninstall apps because the internal memory goes bye bye.
Is there any way in which I can clear/delete this internet data?
I have cleared the cache, reset internet settings to default and nothing works... there is also no "clear data" button when I go to manage applications > Internet.

Thanks

While in the Internet app go to menu > more > settings. There are several options under there to clear various things. Clear all the ones you can stand to be without and see if that frees up the memory.

Note that my phone is rooted and on 2.2, so that might make a difference in menu options.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I've gone into there several times and cleared everything (cache, all cookie data, history, form data, passwords, location access). Still no luck on reducing the space it takes up. :(

Also, any ideas on how I can get the 2.2 update? My phone's unlocked and it's on a different carrier to the "official"/exclusive carrier over here (Telstra). I thus assume I can get no updates from Telstra - is there another way I can obtain it?

Sorry, I'll be no help with that. I'm actually running a rooted HTC Incredible, so the details of what I know about your phone are, well, none. :)

That's okay.
I assume the layout of your menus and such would still be fairly similar, so I wonder if you know how to clear the data from your internet app on your phone? Mine has now risen to being 50MB large and I'm stuck with about 200KB of internal storage left. :(

EDIT: nevermind, spoke to a friend and asked him if he could clear his data. He has a button for it, whereas mine is curiously absent......
Apparently it's an issue with my current version of android - need to update it to 2.2 (only I have no idea how to do this either!)
