Help clearing Orange factory bumph

Hi,

Had phone about a week now on Orange and wondered if any1 knows how to delete some of the preinstalled rubbish like trials of games? Orange maps etc. Apps/ uninstall is not showing as option. Can't find them when connected to pc.

Unfortunately you can't do this without having root privileges. It was the primary reason I rooted my old hero.
It's not such a problem on desire s, as there is so much free memory and these apps don't impact performance, but i agree, they need to go!
I'm patiently waiting for someone to figure out how to unlock the bootloader so i can gain root access and install custom ROMs.

That sucks. I was hoping I could take it to an Orange shop and they could clear it for me. There are 3 games that I dont want to pay

I'm a newbie so this may sound like a stupid question but what are root privilgies? Wanted to get rid of all the Orange junk too

Rooting your phone means that you can gain complete control of the software, firmware and features that are on your phone. You can delete and install what you like on it.

You can install custom ROMs for the Desire S which offer different User Interfaces, themes/skins, and enhanced features, such as privacy protection, etc.

Or you can stick with your stock ROM, tweak certain settings and get rid of the stock apps you don't like.

A couple of things to keep in mind, though...

Once you've rooted your phone, then you will have technically invalidated its warranty, unless you can return all the software to as it was and unroot (or S-On, Security-On) your phone.

Don't go into this without reading widely about it. There are various steps and precautionary measures to take when rooting and installing software/ROMs. People who skip these risk bricking their phone or think they've bricked it when it may not be.
