Root Clockwork Mod Broken?

Sometimes Clockwork Mod won't work. Just now, I tried to reboot the system, but the words disappeared and it had the gear and hat logo and the words come back when I hit the power button, but disappear again when I hit it again. I had to take the battery out. Any way to put a better version of clockwork mod on there for free?

I see the guides in all things root, but I'm not sure which one to use and I don't have time to read hundreds of posts that are not relevant to what I need. Can someone just give me a working link or working set of instructions, please?

it might not be CWM...sounds like it's the rom your using.. but i might be wrong if you can try a clean flash of #2 2.5.1 and then reinstall CWM recovery..couple of months ago i had something like this happen and it was a theme i was running removed it and just stayed with the theme of Rom #2 2.5.1 and no problems..

had a similar prob with an optimus I ran "fix permissions" and cwm started working hope this helps.
