Root Clockwork Restore / Kernel

Folks,

Semi-stupid question. When I do a Clockwork backup or restore, does it backup or restore the kernel and the ROM, or just the ROM?

I believe it is just the ROM, but wanted to verify.

it backup/restores the kernel as long as its not a voodoo lagfix kernel
