clockworkmod backup size

Doesn't sound right to me, depends how many apps you have installed etc but my backups are normally between 2gb to 4gb.

If the whole folder size is around 50mb from what you say then it doesn't sound like its backed up correctly. Did you check that it completed correctly and how much space did you have left on your SD Card?

My recovery backups are generally about 6-700MB. It depends how many apps you have installed, but at the minimum it needs to back up the ROM, so can't be as small as you describe - the system.img at least should be the size of your ROM.

my SD is only 2GB...
but most of my apps installed on SD, not on phone
it realy do strang thing when i press backup
how can i take screenshot of CWM?

CWM backup can't run if you don't have enough space on your SD card. Buy a bigger card. It explains why your backup is only 8MB

It will try to back up the apps that are on sd as well. Those will be erased if you do a factory reset, so backing them up is what you want it to do.

the recovery backup my Stock-ROM, isnt it?
when i click backup it wirte lines like:
can mount system
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: cant open /cache/recovery/last_log

i cleaned some memory, but still:

E: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: cant open /cache/recovery/last_log

never mind
i read that i cant back up my stock rom from CWM

That's not true at all. Whatever you read, you interpreted wrong. It is common knowledge and practice to back up stock ROMs before flashing ANYTHING. Your problem is space. Get a bigger card. You don't have enough room for a backup.

1.24GB free SD memory
isnt it enough?
is it possible the install of CWM is not ok?

I made a backup last night of my GS3. It was 2.6 GB. You don't have enough space. Buy a new SD card. They're $15 for an 8GB card.

Anytime. it's always better to have to ask and know before hand. That is how you learn without making mistakes and messing things up. Good luck!

one last question please,
when i will have bigger SD, and i will back up,
can i move the back up to computer or something?
or it should stay on SD?

Absolutely it can (and should) be moved to a computer. I always keep a stock backup and my current ROM backup on my computer just in case I lose my phone. It is much easier to restore everything should you ever lose your phone.

It literally makes a copy of everything on your phone and is an exact replica. Contacts, software, homescreens, text messages, pictures, apps, settings, boot image. My phone is a 16gb version, but that doesn't mean my backup will be that large. It copies some of the things we take for granted that doesn't use internal memory storage.

ok , i will you alone,
it probably getting annoying ahah
worst case, SD doesnt help, i earned bigger SD
and i will come here to ask again
thank, again :)

Greetings aviranx,

What Extremenerd says is correct

The reason that the backup is so big is that it makes a backup of the entire phone.

The 200MB you are talking about, is just the memory that is available for you to use.

The rest of the MB is used by the phone operating system itself. This is MB that you can not access. This is the remaining file size that makes the backup so much bigger.

thank you to,
i got this
only left buy SD
Tnx :)

The backup need not be as big as Extremenerd's, because you have a different phone.

If you install an app called Quick System Info that can show you the size of the ROM. For example, on mine it lists:

System storage:
Total 65.00MB, Free: 2.72MB

(Yes, my ROM is just over 60MB in size, and would be smaller but for a few additions I've made. This is a very stripped-down Gingerbread - credit to SUroot. Yours is almost certainly larger than that!).

Internal storage
Total: 368MB, Free 50.14MB

So my backup will be at least the size of those 2 partitions. What it doesn't show is that I also have > 320 MB of apps moved to SD, which are also included. If you've got some idea how much you've moved to sd then that plus ROM plus internal space used gives you an idea how big your backup will be.

(Add in cache as well, but my cache partition is tiny).

P.S. I'm not telling you not to buy a bigger card - space is generally good anyway, and you may want more than one backup. Just suggesting how you can check whether you'd expect the backup to fit.

wow! you are very useful!
i did what you said, calculate the max size i need for the back up
and it isnt more than 1GB
which i do have free 1GB(even more) on SD
i thnk the problem is on the CWM :\

Do you know how much space your apps moved to sd take up? Quick System Info doesn't tell you that, but that will also be part of the nandroid backup.

One way of checking: open a terminal emulator and type the following:

du -hs /mnt/asec

In English that command means "disk usage, in human readable format, including subdirectories, for the directory /mnt/asec". /mnt/asec is the mount point for the secure folder that android moves apps to when you move them to sd, so the size it returns tells you how much space those apps are using in addition to your internal space usage.

When I just did that it reported 312.8MB, which is about what I expected from my backups.
