Root Clockworkmod Help

Hello everyone,

Just recieved my new G tablet in the mail. I was getting super excited to load on a custom rom... the problem is I cannot get Clockworkmod to work. I am by no means an expert, I have in the past rooted two droid eris's.

I do feel that I have followed the instructions and have read as many posts about the install as I could find, but after four or five attempts no luck. I have installed the over air update 4 times. After each attempt to install clockworkmod it appears that it wants me to reinstall the update, which I have done.

The steps that i have done are

1) downloaded the files to my pc and connected g tab to the pc
2) dragged them after being extracted to the g tab folder on my pc(not using a sd card just internal memory on the g tab)
3)once there i do see an unzip and recovery file in the g tab folder(also there seems to be one unzipped file there that is seperate from the one i'm moving over from the pc)
4)I shut on g tab power and volume up. and it seems to be installing and says recovery key detected in small black letters in the top left hand corner. It shows a box with an arrow and ends up loading me back to the home screen.
5)I next then shut off power and try to reboot with power and volume up....What I anticipate happening is it loading into the screen where I can flash roms and clear the cache and so forth, but this does not happen. What happens is it says recovery key detected in the corner on the bird screen then goes to the g tab screen and then the the box with the arrow, and repeats that process as long as I hold on to the two buttons. If I let go it goes back to the home screen and once again the over the air update is available to download.

I am sure I am missing some simple step. I have downloaded vegan and also put that on the g tab also with the expectation that I would have been successful. Maybe the over the air update is ok, but I feel like I may be missing out on something awesome if I just settle for that!

Is there any advice some one can give me? It would be appreciated! Thanks

Please verify that the CWM file you downloaded is called cwmod_internal.zip.

I would unzip that file on your computer. Once unzipped, there will be two files that you're going to drag to your internal gtab memory. One is called the recovery folder and the other is called update.zip. Don't unzip the update.zip. So you should have two files in the root of your gtab internal memory. That's when you'll do a Power down. Then power on while holding the volume up button.

Clockwork should install after that.

Good luck.

Just have some questions about Clockwork Mod. I have a viewpad 10s and installed ROM Manager which has Clockwork Mod with it. Rom manager V4.8.0.8 and CWM 2.5.1.8 My first question is (and i have about a million of them sorry) Whats the difference between "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" and "Backup Current ROM" I did the flash option and i got a progress bar but what did i actually do? The second option doesnt do anything and that is because i need to get koush bootstrap i believe. What I am trying to do is make an "image" of my tablet so if i soft brick it or the ROM im using which is ViewCOMB_3.2_Build_7.2 has an issue I can use recovery to take me back to exactly where i was before the issue. Sorry Im a complete noob here as you can see and just trying to get all of this figured out. Many thanks in advance and it is much appreciated.

Sorry I feel like an idiot. Flash CWM just installs it. I thought it was installed when ROM manager gets installed. Now to figure out how to get the ROM backed up.

glad you got that figured out! backing up is easy. just reboot into recovery, select "backup and restore", then choose "backup", and let CWM do its thing.

Thanks SolidOrange, I am going to give this a try. Another question though. Everyone is talking about the koush bootstrap. After a lot of digging i found one with a .APK file extension but have no idea where to put that file and if it will even work with my tablet (viewpad 10s) In ROM manager i was trying to use the Backup Current ROM option which from my understanding will make an "image" of my tablet which is what i want in case something goes wrong. So if i do have to flash again and start all over i should just have to install ROM manager again (and CWM) and then reboot into recovery correct? Thanks again for your help I just have a million questions and am trying to learn all of this and not annoy people.

lol well, went into ROM manager, tapped on reboot into recovery, let it sit for a bit and now all that happens when i press and hold the power button or just press it is a white screen flashes for a second and then goes away. Im not sure what i did wrong as i did get into CWM yesterday but it looks like im reflashing again :/ (PS ive got that step down lol)

So when i click on reboot into recovery is the screen supposed to go blank? Thats what my tab does every time. If so do i then just hit or press and hold the power button to get into CWM? This poor tablet. It should just be taken away from me  I think my new nickname should be "The Tinkering Train-wreck" or am i supposed to flash clock work mod before i reboot into recovery each time? Yeah im back to where i was starting over lol I press the power button and a white/greyish screen pops up for a second then goes away and i know theres no button combination for these tabs to load CWM so i have to flash ViewCOMB_3.2_Build_7.2 again. What on God's Green Earth am i doing wrong here. This time i installed Titanium backup and was using that in conjunction so maybe it wont be so painful this time. Maybe i should just use the scheduled backup in ROM Manager lol. Well if anything i sure purchased the right tablet as far as soft bricking/un-bricking goes.

And it turns out that Titanium Backup (free) will do exactly what i want it to do (after a backup, reflash, and restore everything is exactly as i had left it, for the most part) However it really bothers me that i cannot get into CWM without soft bricking the tablet. I did get into it once and i dont think i was doing anything different than i have been doing but im not 100 percent sure. I would like to get it working because its just going to bother the shit out of me until i do . Also having as many fail-safes i can have as far as backups are concerned the better IMHO. Is it overkill? Yes probably but I'm also trying to learn about Android for lack of a better term (I have a POS Samsung Acclaim that im looking into doing something along the same lines that I have done here) Hopefully that will render the phone useable. So if anyone has a step by step ****** guide or can tell me where im going wrong here please let me know. Is there any difference in the backup current ROM option (which i think i need "koush bootstrap", which i cannot find anywhere besides the market (i cannot afford the 2 bucks) and i wouldnt know where to place the file if i did have it) and doing a backup through CWM. Sorry again ladies and gentlemen for being such a pain in the A$$ here and appreciate any time and knowledge you can lend a Noob with a capital N like myself.

i wish i could help you more 7, but i have 0 experience with the viewpad 10. i see you have posted in the viewpad subforum as well, hopefully someone will chime in over there. :o
