Close folder after launching app

I have a few folders filled with apps set up on one of my home screens. When I open a folder to use an app inside, the folder stays open. If I hit the home button, then scroll back to the page, the folder is still open. I'd like the default action to close the folder after I launch the app. Any way of doing this?

Sorry to jump your question, but how do you add apps to a folder? I like to organize mine, so I created a folder, but couldn't figure out how to add apps to it (tried the long press like adding to homescreens).

Create the folder, then open the folder and use the little + down in the corner.
