Root [Closed] Speculation - Root Method for ZTE ZMAX

Status
Not open for further replies.
Well...the devs are quiet...and everyone's posting that they're getting other phones......

lemme explain something.....I got this phone for the features that existed...without root...I hate adds....but,I know how to disable apps I don't use that I can't uninstall....

Before I had the LG Optimus F6.....it had people working magic...I say it that way...because, it needed it...it had no space after updates and crap....but, it had some power...

This phone will get dropped by the devs thanks to its makers and the dummies that drove em away....

Oh well....I didn't get the avant...big whoop...I still have a big huge screen...and everything else I need....:P

So all the quitters can quit.....with KK with TONS of room(compared to what I had)....it's luxury for me...AND I discovered Launcher Lab....Batman theme with hidden icons..YES!!! THANK YOU!!!

It could be worse.

I'm pretty sure that whole post was just positive self affirmation....lol.

And besides....over there at xda...people don't know how to start topics....makes me faceplam my facepalm .....frustrating indeed.

I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge, but allow me to see if I understand the current situation...

When you hold down a certain key combination such as: power button, and the volume down button, for example, then that would give you access to the BOOTLOADER (I guess is kinda like the BIOS on a PC???), which my understanding is, that it allows you to choose what operating system AKA android version (which are assembled/packaged together into ROM's???). But before we can download one of these ROM's onto a PC for 'flashing' into the phone, we need access to the bootloader, and we don't have that, because it's locked down, either due to ZTE or MetroPCS or both. Am I correct so far? Wouldn't we need to boot the phone differently, in order to change/alter/update the current bootloader with the unlocked modified one (once someone creates it?)

Also... What about rooting? How is this related? Meaning, does the bootloader need to be done before any rooted ROM's can be created by whoever makes those? If so, how come there's reports of a root?

Thanks in advance.

Well..you're mostly correct.....thing is thou....the firmware monkeys at ZTE have blocked off all past exploits and locked up access to root....

So far...everything under the sun has been tried...all apk one button's...all adb commands...all pc one clicks...

The biggest problem is...that root keeps coming up r/o (read only)...no matter what angle...and they have tried angles I've never heard of.....

The hardcore devs that started got driven away by stupid trolls with no patients....and the alien angle dev jr.s (it's still a position of respect to me..because they were the ones going all out) are or were in the brink of cracking it....

But, the last page of posts are about people quitting the ZMAX and running to other phones....which..I think is a mistake....because, unless you got bank to waste on a Samsung....the avant it's been rooted and has roms I believe..but, not worth the difference...and LG has taken to making practical jokes....

The other metro phones are for poo...

So...the short version..it's a wait and see...

Here's the xda thread...a good read..and alot of WTH!?!?...thanx to llamas with no brains...

@FloridaShawn

The bootloader is analogous to a pc bios, but it's not a bios.

It is the lowest level of operational (as opposed to support) firmware on your phone.

It maintains a pointer to where the phone needs to go to load the kernel and start up (like a bios).

It also controls access to the other partitions, notably stock recovery (active during full system updates via OTAs).

Your /system partition, where the rest of Android is besides the kernel, is read-only unless the stock recovery is given an update with an encrypted security signature allowing the /system partition to mount as read-write for the update.

Unlocking the bootloader breaks that chain of command.

It allows the stock recovery to replaced with a custom recovery - and that in turn can open up the /system partition without the manufacturer's security key.

Or, it can allow direct re-mounting of the /system as read-write.

Root is nothing more than the addition of a secure library and a secure app added to the /system partition.

But adding files to a protected, read-only file system is the problem - getting rid of the protection (stemming from the bootloader controlling the locks) is the key.

Hope this makes sense.

I've gone quiet..and just started watching.....

I've sorta gotten used to it as is...wish I could eliminate adds and start downloading/installing to external thou...

Yeah....I was ok with people constantly asking the same thing about the same thing and posting the same debunked methods...for. the f6...

This phone is attracting a "special" crowd thanx to the sale they had for it....I don't blame anyone for jumping on it...it's literally a really nice phone....once you've figured out how to hold it....lol....

Last I saw in XDA ... even the devs that decided they could do without the original devs that got drove away...are getting driven away....

There's no such thing as a stupid question...until the 30th time it's repeated by people that can't just read what been said thirty times already..

That and you could buy a nice size flat screen,or pay most of your rent,or buy a old used car, or buy a ps4 and a Xbox one,OR buy three s3's , or take the family to Disney land for the price they want for an s6 after all the junk charges they tack on..

I think metro/tmobil realized they socked themselves in the ding ding and blamed it on ZTE......

How many people have you heard...openly say " I cannot wait for the new ZTE (something with max in the title)!!!"

They were betting it would boost the sales of higher priced phones....when I got mine....The person in front of me bought one...The person being helped next to me bought one.....my wife bought one the week before...and they told her they had limited supplies..."we have maybe...two after this...."

What was it being put next to?...everyone was comparing it to the avant .........who started that??

How could a phone made by Samsung possibly come second to a "cheap Chinese" ZTE?

The idea is far fetched...but, so are a lot of marketing ploys that work\worked.

Yeah as far as specs go the zmax beats the mega in every way except screen size at a mere fraction of the cost so I cab see how it might hurt the sales of their higher end devices.

The zmax would get compared to the avant because they are Metro's 2 best budget priced phones. The zmax however beats the avant in every category. Its only real drawback is the fact that it is very bulky even for a 5.7" phablet. Personally I got the Avant because I can't stand not having root it literally drives me nuts. If the zmax ever becomes rootable I'll probably jump on the first chance to buy one as long as I don't find a better deal. For the price I can get over the bulkiness as long as I can root it and use xposed modules for customization.
Its too bad that they've suspended the sale of new zmax handsets.

I am getting along without root...that's what I keep telling myself.....

I miss not having ads, not having Google apps I keep disabling annoying me, and I miss not being able rid MY Android of apps I do not want.

But, it's like running in the country after the confines of the f6...room room room....

I can live without root for now (repeat, repeat,ommmmmmm...)

Well, depending on your idea of doom.....efforts over in XDA land may have taken a nose dive.....

No one's doing more than talking about the battery controversy...and ideas that have been tried ....

The theories about what may work have all run into the great wall of r/o......even stuff that would make NASA walk away......R/O!!!!

Read only..Read only...Read only....The mantra I had of imaginary hope, has turned into an echo of those 2 bleak, hateful, unfriendly, cold words...lol....

I can only think of expletives that would describe things unkind and unsportsman like that no one needs to read to understand.....oh well

As long as I can still wake it without using the power button it's ok.....my biggest gripe after READ ONLY...is my lame inability to apply pressure to the power button without somehow affecting the volume....

Blah blah blah...ok...sorry...if you read this far I probably wasted your time...I just have this stupid feeling of being robbed of privacy in a domain I own...yeah!!!!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrr

And.........one of the senior persons pointed out...it's a general exploit....non specific and non zmax.....

Nevermind

Well.....they were busy talking about what metro/tmobile might trade for the AWESOME ZMAX...

You should check out the XDA ZMAX thread.....it's like watching All My Children meets Gilligan's island.....

It's serious...then it's wacky....then you wanna choke someone for being a troll...then you're "huh????"....then you're "WTF?!?!"..........

It almost challenges what we preach about reading being fundamental....

The last thing someone said...that may just be more "hot text air".......isssssss.....

ZTE may reissue the ZMAX....

what, when, why, who...I dunno...

Hearsay has become the norm in a very UN XDA way.........

I wanna ignore them...but, it's like reading the Sunday Funnies.....what will Charlie Brown do next???????

Dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn!!!!
