Closing apps

When I go into my settings an choose manage application an try to close running apps it says if i close this app it will cause it to malfunction why???

I guess it's a generic warning as some apps might be busy writing data or something when you stop them.

In general, though you shouldn't need to close apps as Android manages all of that pretty efficiently in the background. If you do feel the need though, just go to your app switcher and swipe the running app away.
