Root CM 10.2 Nightlies Discussion

TDM: Big bug. Reboot -> Recovery from the power menu is not kicking back into recovery. I'm having to ADB to get into recovery. Tried three times and the same results. It just reboots the system.

Reboot -> Recovery worked for me. I did enable developer options first tho, in case that makes any difference.

I'm also noticing that the LG logo is not closing out from the kernel. I remember something similiar being an issue on an earlier rom, but not something I ran into before. Now, when ever the screen should blank out during a transition, I see the LG Logo.

I cant get a logcat - it just sets at waiting for device. when I get a list of devices it shows offline. Would this be due to an old version of adb?
Probably due to an old version of ADB. I had to authorize my ADB client to connect to the system during one of the logs.

OK, so the graphics issue I had on CM10.1 with the lock screen camera and with my Carcassone game appear to be cleared up. Also, yeah for Play Music not crashing, but its still lagging like crazy. Bluetooth works beautifully and connected instantly with my N7. I can't wait for data to be fixed and an OC kernel.

Can't find the Developers option in settings , I'm using quickboot app to go into Recovery . I could use volume down and power then press twice power also..

  • Open the Settings menu
  • Go down to the "System" sub-section of the settings menu at the bottom
  • Hit "About Phone [or Tablet]"
  • At or near the bottom, you should see the "Build number" header
  • Tap this area about 10 times, and the Developer Options menu should appear

I had 3g kick on for a few minutes when I was out earlier.. But it was a very weak signal. Couple freezes and reboots.. But battery life has been good considering it should be constantly looking for 4g

Dang, this runs very well on my Spectrum so far, but I haven't activated it on Verizon, so that isn't an issue at this time. alright yeah I was just watching a Youtube video in the webkit browser and the phone rebooted itself, ah well, I knew it was going to have bugs! Undoubtedly some sorta graphical issues, that cause the lg boot screen to show for a sec and it can cause the phone to reboot.(Just so you know) :) The patched Time Warner Cable tv app works fine, since the root checker is removed! I'm also not sure if its because I wiped all caches before installing 4.3, but this rom runs better than the CM 10.1.3-RC2 I was using, CM 10.1 lagged at first boot especially. While this booted up and has remained butter smooth so far, Nice work!

FWIW, another interesting scenario... I was able to get working 4G data service on my VZW Spectrum with Test build 20130904 by semi-dirty flashing over CM 10.1. I'm running TWRP 2.6.0. I wiped system (only), installed 20130904, installed GApps, wiped cache/davlik, and rebooted. On boot, had 4G data almost immediately.

I'm sure a dirty(data) flash is not the safest long-term plan, but let me know if there are any specific logs or tests I can run that might help.

I tried and got stuck in a boot loop...
Working through another exercise right now...

*Full* wipe (everything except sdcard)
Clean install CM 10.1 (latest official build)
Install latest GApps for 4.2
Reboot
Run first time wizard (including setting up WiFi, Google account, etc)
... Did *not* select Restore from settings from my Google account
Enable Developer Options
Enable Advanced Reboot options
... Did *not* change any other system settings or install or update any apps
Reboot to Recovery (no wipes this time)
Install CM 10.2 test build
Install latest GApps for 4.3
Reboot

Came up with 4G data working and no reboots or freezes (at least not yet)

YMMV...

Weird. I'm going to have to give this a try. When I tried dirty flashing over CM10.1 I had no mobile connection what so ever, but I was also not coming from a clean install of CM10.1 .

So I looked at neph's radio logs and the issue is definitely LTE. Unfortunately it's not clear exactly why it's happening. The are lots of moving parts in the code and it's difficult to follow, especially without an active device to play with. I'll probably be requesting more logs and also copies of some telephony files next week.

Who are the current devs here? It would be nice if another dev with a vzw account could play with the telephony code and see if recent commits are responsible for the breakage. I can point you in the right direction...

When I clean installed 10.2 (wiped data), I had no mobile connection either (voice or data). That's when I decided to start experimenting :)

I'm not an Android/Linux/Java dev, but I'm moderately technical and willing to grab logs and test builds as needed.

Thanks for keeping *all* of these devices lively, TDM and Neph... especially our Spectrums. If you guys hadn't cracked the loader and gotten us official CM10.1 support my wife would never have let my CM her fireball :)

Re: clean vs. dirty flash... yes cm should support"dirty" upgrade from one version to another. However no guarantees with night builds.

Please do a clean flash if you want to send me radio logs. The less variables in play the better. Otherwise feel free to dirty flash.

One more update: I can confirm the following with Bluetooth...
* Able to enable/disable/re-enable with no issue
* Able to add (pair) a new device (Jawbone headset)
* Able to use "Phone audio" profile to voice dial and communicate during a call
* Able to use "Media audio" profile to hear system beeps/clicks and Google Play Music
* Link with headset via Jawbone (2.0) app and read battery status, etc (serial profile?)

To be clear, this is on a dirty 10.2 flash (over a factory reset 10.1 install with only the initial wizard run). I would wipe data, but when I did that I lost radio (voice and data)

Sweet, thanks for the tip! 4G didn't come up right away, I toggled it off and back on and it connected. Dirty flashed from CM10.1 using CWM. It ran thru upgrading all apps and rebooted once, running fine so far.

I'm willing to help where I can... As little as that might be. I made an attempt to dive into the Dev world a couple months ago - setup a build box and built a couple roms... But then work picked up and I haven't done anything since. I can offer that if it helps... A build box at the hands of an inexperienced noob with a spec activated on vzw. I would definitely need some guidance and could only flash ROMs to my phone in the evenings since I rely on it for work, but if that'll help then here I am. Let me know...
