Root CM 10.2 Nightlies Discussion

Sweet, thanks for the tip! 4G didn't come up right away, I toggled it off and back on and it connected. Dirty flashed from CM10.1 using CWM. It ran thru upgrading all apps and rebooted once, running fine so far.

This points to the APN database (the runtime sqlite db in /data) as the culprit. I saw this problem in neph's logs. I'll need to investigate exactly how that is populated and used.

I'm available to help most evenings and on the weekends. I'm not much of a coder but I probably have enough experience to see stuff in the logs that would normally be missed by a non-dev.

Working through another exercise right now...

*Full* wipe (everything except sdcard)
Clean install CM 10.1 (latest official build)
Install latest GApps for 4.2
Reboot
Run first time wizard (including setting up WiFi, Google account, etc)
... Did *not* select Restore from settings from my Google account
Enable Developer Options
Enable Advanced Reboot options
... Did *not* change any other system settings or install or update any apps
Reboot to Recovery (no wipes this time)
Install CM 10.2 test build
Install latest GApps for 4.3
Reboot

Came up with 4G data working and no reboots or freezes (at least not yet)

YMMV...
Sorry that I couldn't respond sooner. I can confirm that this method does enable 4G data.

TDM: Log is uploaded and you should have the link in private shortly. Will you also want copies of /data from a clean and dirty install to see what may be going on?

Yes... Just the APN db. I don't have the exact path handy right now but I'll get it to you soon.

Also I'll get a radio log from a d2vzw user and compare. One of the active AOKP devs has a d2vzw.

Adding another confirmation - this got 4g working for me too on VZW.

Working great here (dirty flashed over 10.1). The only thing that gives me trouble are photo apps (Camera FX, Paper camera, ect.). Otherwise this fixed a lot of bugs. Still have to try out my car's bluetooth which was always an issue because the passcode screen would never come up on the phone.

Just got 2 3.7v 3800mah batteries. From completely dead cm10.2 won't get it charging.. Stock locked bootloader starts charging instantly...

Now I'm curious... I'll be sure to kill my battery today and see what happens.

After getting one of them past 35% I put it in my spec and no luck. Cm10.1 and 10.2.... Works perfect on stock...... Anyone else having issues with non stock batteries?

Found a small bug - go into camera, switch to video, then rotate the phone. For me the display isn't right, as if the image changed for landscape but didn't rotate on the screen. It could be tied to dirty flashing and restoring everything from TiB, so if someone else could try it right quick and let us know if they have it too.

Taking a picture from inside Facebook gives me a screwed up screen. Like the cm10.1 video bug we had.. But after exiting the app everything is good

Tried out bluetooth, it may have been working all along.

If you have a bluetooth device with a passkey (four number code), set it to 0000. Apparently the CM roms will enter that as default.

Also, the photo exif data still always shows "2002-12-08 12.00.00". It's not a big deal though. The only place I really notice is Dropbox.

Camera app shoots pics upside down , not in the normal way in my Spectrum which I flashed 10.2 the "clean" way . And the stock browser has giving me a frozen phone and no choice but to pull battery out to reboot. I did a lot of browsing and got into heavy flash websites , though . Also the first day the battery stayed at 40 degrees even when not in use, next day it stabilized at 35 degrees and cool off . voice ,text, data worked fine since first flash , but I have this Spectrum on VM only CDMA . Also noticed the clock in 1st lock screen stays in Celsius degrees. And too have the LG logo hanging for a brief moment when plugging charger ..

Koki, what app are you using for pictures? The normal camera app works fine for me (for pictures) but focal doesn't seem to adjust for camera rotation... At least for me it doesn't.

Sorry for not mentioning it , it was the Focal app that is shooting pics upside down . The stock app is ok . The stock camera app takes pics normal , but when using the stock video recorder I had a forceclose after I pressed the stop button (started recording ok but then forceclosed when stopped recording) .

For a testing build is quite amazing, it has a kind of mature stable nature with minor bugs . I haven't experienced any random reboots . I remember when I was testing the Paranoid and Pacman in LG Thrill and there was a lot of random reboots . Not on this 10.2 , TDM is quite the accomplished one. Almost seems as if he is using the blueprints for his 10.1 which I find extremely stable ( his last build 10.1 ) .I cannot thank him enough.

Thank you for the kind review but I'm just a minor player in this. I did the initial kernel work and some device specific things like GPS and LTE support and such. that's about all. rmcc and the test of the cm team do most everything else that you see.

Also note that android 4.3 is a relatively minor update from 4.2. So that is why you sense a mature feel to the rom. It's mostly a refinement on what's been working for many months.

This may seem off topic, and I am sorry to barge in like this, but since TDM and a bunch of the usual suspects (LOL) are here in this thread I thought I would ask you all something.
It just may be in the running for silly question of the year, but as a noob I want to know; what is/are the major advantages of being on JB as opposed to GB or ICS for that matter. I mean, did the efficiency of the code increase, do we have access to more apks? What is/are the advantages?
Reading all of these threads, the thought crossed my mind, and I figured to get a truthful and accurate answer, I could do so here. Thanks to all for everything.:D

I'll try to explain it in Windows terms which is what a lot of people understand.

Think of Win95, WinXP, and Win7.

Win95 (GB) is light and smooth. It ran well on low powered machines, but didn't come with many features. It was ahead of the game as far as anything else out at the time. You could run this on a newer machine, but you'd never get the full potential out of the machine as the OS was not optimized for dual cores or better.

WinXP (ICS) was a code re-write that gave it more features, but also required a stronger machine and a different underlying kernel. Items written for XP didn't work on Win95 because you were missing access to certain system files in a lot of cases, but running Win95 programs on XP was more or less easy.

Win7 (JB) was a smoothing of the code, speeding up of the sub system (project Butter on android) and listening to what the public wanted and merging that into the source code and you still get backwards compatibility.

Hopefully that makes sense to you.

If you want the tech details of what was added with each release, I would look here:

Just dirty flashed from cm-10.1.3-RC2-vs920 and worked good. I see the same problem in cm 10.1 and RC2 in video mode recording does not work with autofocus. Taking pictures fine with autofocus.
4G LTE is in service with Verizon. Load websites fine.
I will report new issues later. Right now I start using it.

Sorry, should of Been more specific. When I'm done with a call or voice mail I pull the phone away but the screen doesn't come on. This happens mostly outside in sunlight.
