Cm10 and usb storage question/issue

I have the phone hooked up to the PC via usb cord, and am currently flashed to Cm10 unofficial rom, have kies installed.

On stock rom, the phone came up under My Computer as "phone" and I was able to transfer files back and forth like a mass storage device. In Cm10 the usb storage option doesn't seem to see my phone as a mass storage device, although my external sdcard it see's fine.

I know for a fact it's not the usb cord, because it works fine on stock rom.

Is this a known issue with roms, and is there a fix/work around for this?

Not sure if this works for CM10 but this is how you do it on AoKP. Since they are based on the same source i think this might work.

Pull down the notification page. Select the usb connected notification. turn on mass storage.

Yeah, I do that and it brings me to "Turn on USB storage" then I tap that and it says "Turn off USB storage" which I can tap, and toggle between the 2.

Once usb storage is on I cannot see my phone at all, all I can see is my external sdcard.....of corse if I don't have an sdcard inserted then this would be a problem :).

I am useing the internal sdcard partition storage as my sdcard, since the phone has enough space.

I just now noticed somthing. I am useing ES File explorer and when I go to a folder called external_sd there is nothing under that either, thinking perhaps the rom labels it differently for the system, that or the kernal I am useing has a weird setup. I am going to install root explorer and see what that brings me, I'll report back in a bit.

Update:
I grabbed a free version called root browser lite. It see's the external sd folder just fine, so since I'm not a root expert or a linux or kernel expert, I'm at a loss as to why es file explorer can no longer see that part of it now.

Ok I really hate windblows sometimes. I think I might have some sorta phantom gre, lins running around in my pc, laughing histerically at me when stuff like this happens.

I lost my phones storage, then I lost my usb flash drive storage, it's like the safely eject was seeing them, disc management was seeing them, but my computer was nothing, so I rebooted.
Magically everything's back, hmph, go figure.

I had this happen twice to my usb wifi also, it was like connected but 1/2 way, so I could browse, but when I used an app that needed internet/wifi acess it said I was not online LOL.....I really don't get it

Anyways it's all fine, it was just a pc glitch, all fixed and resolved now.

Thanks for replying though :) that says alot just replying.

lol. I went and installed JB again since i went back to ICS to make that tutorial.

I noticed now my phone comes up as if i put an sdcard in now. instead and its own separate entity like it did in ics.

Good to see you figured it out.
Its always good to give windows a reboot first before going deeper.

I'm going for the Asop rom, I heard it was best battery life and such, so I'm gona give it a try tonight. I'll probably leave it on for a bit and decide what to do later. All this Learning has me kinda drained, sorta "information overload" syndrome, so I'm going to shift down to 2nd gear for awhile and learn my way around JB.
