Root Cm11 rom?

Yeah true, I use it to mess around and work on my modding skills (which is just the bare minimum) but its still a good phone to mess around with.

With the exception of screen resolution and onboard storage the phone is damn near identical to the t999 (Tmobile GS3) SoC wise. I might be able to reference the T999 for help porting KitKat to the Avid 4G

Wouldn't be a bad idea to look into it.

I am, and it is proving quite informative. Apparently the T999 is a full Qualcomm SnapdragonMSM8960. The Avid uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 lite. Now what the difference is I don't have a damn clue. But I want to find out.

I haven't laxed on the TWRP 2.7port. Work has been calling me in thee last few days. Will be posting up this week sometime. For those who want CWM I suggest you use Totlth CWM touch. I dont want to step on his toes.

Why couldn't we just use his cwm or philz touch recovery to flash KitKat?

I use a Galaxy S4 m919 as my daily driver and when Cyangenmod 11 came out anything before TWRP 2.6.3.0 would not install CM11 properly. And from what I read that was the same with a lot of other devices as well. So I decided to go to the newest version to not only avoid any issues but to bring the latest features and to also give everyone a choice.

Got TWRP 2.7.0.4 running, just have to hammer out a reboot bug that makes the phone hang for 45 seconds before actually rebooting and playing with theming for shits and giggles.

Wait so are you giving us cm11 and TWRP?

Yes. For a few reasons.

1. TWRP 2.5 can not install Kit Kat reliably. The way TWRP 2.5 copies CM11 seems to corrupt the boot loader of Kit Kat. The first version of TWRP that doesn't corrupt KK's boot loader is 2.6.3.0. I am pushing it to 2.7.1.0 is because it is the latest and because it has numerous bug fixes and added features.

2. While I know CWM is a great custom recovery, it was the first custom recovery for Android and it set the defacto standard for Custom Recoveries. However I do prefer choice (Hence my love for Android, Open Source and OSX) and TWRP has better and more features (IMHO) then CWM.

And yes I am cooking CM11 for the Avid 4g, but it makes sense having a working custom recovery before trying to install the ROM.

Either way you don't need to use TWRP to install it, you can use CWM as well.

i don't wanna ask, but how much progress?? Is there anyway we can help?

Has anyone heard from bfldworker or totlth?[/QUOTE

I got side tracked. My father had a heart attack thursday and required emergency bypass surgery. Haven't worked on it since Thursday. Give me a few days so I know what is going on with my father.

OK, got my dad situated and comfortable. It goes like this. He had a heart attack while on duty with the Coast Guard in 1991, he was put on blood pressure meds and a aspirin regiment. He was ordered to be on a low sodium diet, and exercise. He had no choice when he was still with the USCG. Fast forward 23 years. Now retired, He still was taking BP meds and asprin regiment but wasn't watching his diet and became a couch potato. It all caught up with him.

Needless to say he saw the light (gallows humor intended).

So now that life is back to normal I can get back to work and getting TWRP and KK working properly.

I have to work from 1am to 11am tonight, so give me until Monday to get the ball back rolling.
