Root CM12.1 UNOFFICIAL RC5

On CM you're already rooted...
Go to About Phone in the settings, click Build Number 7 times, go to Developer Options and in Root Access select Root and ADB
Tried that and it says its not rooted?.
I'm trying to install twrp with the twrp app but doesn't do anything. I'm trying to restore it to butternoob.

Would re rooting on cm12 work like on 4.4 root method with kingroot?
u need to do the r/w part its already rooted . go enabble root access in developers option

1-adb shell
2-getprop ro.build.fingerprint
3-setprop persist.sys.k P892T57_MPCS
4-getprop persist.sys.k
5-cd /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/
6-dd if=recovery of=/sdcard/recovery.img
7-dd if=boot of=recovery
8-reboot recovery

9-adb shell
10-su
11-id
12-mount -o rw,remount /system
then install twrp

I mean I got cm12 to boot up no problem. But I got not recovery and no root. And I enabled root access but same problem. Ohh What sludge I'm in lol...

I backed up my rom, then wiped everything and then booted to make sure it would be fine without data. Then I went to recovery and restored data only and everything was fine.
By "wiped everything," do you mean going to TWRP>WIPE>ADVANCED WIPE and just clicking on all the boxes? Any exceptions to the boxes? Or just do a "factory reset?"

What can I do if I dont have recovery or root? On cm12.1 beta 2
Unlock developer options by clicking the build number 8 times quickly under About phone in the settings. after that, look for root access and select Apps and ADB. Install the TWRP apk found in this forum and install the recovery. The installation will work even with temp root.

If you don't have root or recovery then how did you install cm12?
This is what I did I flashed cm12 then gapps then factory wipe and then flashed switcher zip from 4.4 and flashed restore zip to backup the cm12 ROM and then I rebooted. And it loaded up and everything started crashing. I tried restoring to butternoob but found out I didn't have a recovery I would hold up and power button and it would just reboot and reboot. There is a su app but it doesn't do anything I open it and there is nothing but a blank screen. Idk maybe I really am screwed...

boot it without the switcher...
I don't think you need it....
and cm12 is 5.0 or 5.1...
I don't think KK specific items will jive well..as you have found out

Just tested beta 2. The ROM is randomly throttling the max CPU frequency down to 300 MHz. Just figured I would give a heads up on it.

If volume up and power doesn't boot you into twrp then you need to reboot normally which should reboot you into twrp. If you boot into twrp by doing this then you need to flash the restore zip you already have and then reboot recovery and flash cm12 and gapps and then factory reset and reboot system.

If rebooting normally does not boot you into twrp, then boot whatever way you can while still having everything work. You then need to go into about phone inside the system settings and enable developer options by tapping on build number 7 times. Then open developer options and enable root access. You will then need to install flashify and extract the recovery.img from one of the switcher zips and use flashify to flash it.

Didn't flash beta 2 because it seems it's primarily a fix for Data issues. I'm on T-Mobile so my data works just fine on Beta 1. I'm just waiting for the YouTube fix, and a fix for Netflix not loading. The touch screen issues haven't been happening in 2 days but I fear it will very soon

I'm not saying this 100% works, but its been awhile since my phone has given me any problems with touchscreen, but go into the app store and search "touchscreen calibration" and calibrate your screens.

It should fix it, I think it's just off calibration, like the battery issue.

However I dont know if im lucky or what.

It happens about 6 or 7 times a day for me, but hasnt happened to me since i did the calibration. Might be a fix for it.

Also, has anyone noticed the tethering only gives us an option for USB now? why is that?

Data seems a little better, but also a little worse. I find myself without service sometimes, im still on the IPv6 Tmobile APN though. If thats why please let me know! Im too scared to change any other APN.

Yeah I see that data has been fixed but the one issue is the headphone not being recognized. I played with Beta 2 and it seems smoother and optimized but the headphone jack not working had me go back to Beta 1.
Also @SeemsLegit yeah, I noticed the USB Tether option too but I wouldn't know since I never had to use it on previous devices.

Seems good too me my YouTube my Bluetooth earphones work my calls are good my brightness good
