Root Cm7/9?

When do you guys think the RAZR will see any release of Cyanogenmod? I need to know if I should get this phone over the Nexus or not, and I think that right now, that's a big deciding factor.

I think Cyanogen have said that now they have the ICS source to expect a release in around 2 months. I don't believe they drip feed releases so when they do release, it's done for a load of devices en masse so I'd say for either device, it'll be 2 months minimum.

I'd go for the Nexus though, I'm not saying the Razr won't get CM9, but there's more chance of the Nexus getting it.

Oh, I know the Nexus will get it. But I don't want it for the Nexus. I want it for the RAZR because I want Vanilla Android.

CM7 would do just fine for me as well. It's just a matter of a dev porting the ROM to the RAZR.

If what I hear is true, the CM team needs the bootloader to be unlocked to work their magic. So you might be SOL until that happens.

Motorola's official statement said they would allow the bootloader to be unlocked on future devices "where carriers allow" and you can bet your ass Verizon won't allow it.

You want Cyanogen on your phone? Where have you been? Motorola has been locking their bootloaders ever since the Milestone and it has stood as a roadblock for ROM development ever since. One workaround for certain phones (Droid X comes to mind) is to use a bootstrapping method to bypass the bootloader. This method isn't supported by CM at all though.

Alright, well obviously it's possible since the Bionic already has a semi-working CM7 ROM. It's just a matter of when. kthx

There is also 2ndinit which got us CM74DX on the DX, so the bootloader doesnt stop a CM port any longer, just no custom kernels still. So theres a good chance of a official CM for the RAZR ;)

What about Safestrap? We have this for the Bionic and it somehow gives you the option to boot into recovery without having to do it from the OS itself. AKA no more having to worry to much about a boot loop. I'm just praying like hell that CM9 does come to the Bionic... otherwise I'm going to be pissed!
