Root CM7 Boot

Sptz

Newbie
I tried searching this but didn't find much...
I have my desire rooted with redux 1.2, I read somewhere that with CM7 Boot the internal storage could almost double, I have about 110mb total at the moment, so I guess that isn't really movable since I suppose that is the total physical reading.

But to the point, is CM7 boot a "mod" for Hboot or something? What does it do exactly and is it worth it? Also is it worth flashing the latest Radio? Any advantages in that?

Thanks!

The CM7 hboot is a modified hboot from alpharev.nl. It reconfigures your internal memory, reducing the size of the system partition (where the ROM lives) and freeing space for the data partition (user apps and data).

You need to be S-Off for this, which is achieved using alpharev's tools. Visit alpharev.nl for information, and also have a look at the guides in the sticky post, which have been recently updated to include this.

Incidentally, for redux you can do better than CM7 - the Oxygen table will save you even more space.

CM7 is a hboot. It needs S-off. In the sticky thread of this forum is an FAQ about internal memory. Have a look at the Alpharev section.

I assume you are GSM?

Thanks a lot guys. Oxygen table? Where can I find more info about it? Do I need to "remove" anything like clockworkmod or anything? Does it need S-off as well?

Yes, I am GSM

You'll need, s-off and you wont need to remove Clockwork mod, Fastoot comander which you'll find in the drop box in our sigies is a good place to start doing stuff, (hope I'm not getting too technical). :D

Read about S-off and the Oxygen table here.

Thanks a lot everyone!

If I'm allowed I want to ask an OT question to anyone using Redux. Is anyone using the latest kernel but with lowered voltages? I want to try that but I'm not sure how to install the kernel? Has it got to be embedded onto the ROM previous to flash?

Flash a kernel just like you flashed your rom, as long as you make sure you flash the kernel after the rom. Basically you can boot into recovery and flash a new kernel right now, no wipe.

How do you bypass the addon in Redux then? Because there isn't a "bypass" button and you always need a "Governor" selected etc

You don't. Set CPU and the redux CPU settings both change and display settings within the kernel.

If you have both, whatever you set in one will be shown in the other. The Kernel will always have a governor set.

However, set cpu has battery profiles and screen off profiles, where you can set specific frequencies of CPU under different conditions.
