Root CM7 Install issues

Hi,

Apologies for adding to this thread, and ill start a new one if required.. but i have also noticed a couple of things

When I turn off my phone, and restart, its freezes on the white HTC screen.. I have to go into clockwork and reboot to get into Cyan - and sometimes that also freezes on the homescreen

I am also receiving the following messaging

the process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly cyanogen.

I have downloaded gapps-gb-20110613-signed which i think is the lastest package.

Any ideas on the above? Im most concerned about turning the phone off and freezing on the white HTC screen.

Which handset are you using and I can move to an appopriate subforum.

How did you download CM, from the Cyanogen site or via ROM Manager on your phone?

Did you wipe before the install?

That'll be why, you don't wipe before flashing the google pack.

Wipe, flash the main CM zip, stay in clockwork then flash the google pack. Reboot and you should be sorted.

I'll move to the Desire forum.

Sorry, I meant I flashed CM, and had problems with gmail etc so found the pack i needed, wiped, then flashed cm followed by google pack (no wipe inbetween)

fix permissions wont help you.
that guide is old and i would rather you go through the guides on this site as they are up to date and constantly updated.

also what type is this desire? GSM or CDMA
you say you changed the hboot via that guide but s-off on that guide refers to unrevoked forever s-off which only available for CDMA

can you give us your hboot version number

Yes I believe I am still on the standard hboot. Details below

Hi MandaNick, im not sure if the above also answers your question?

yeah thats standard,
there must be something that you are doing wrong somewhere or the download could be corrupted.

do other roms flash ok?

OK so I downloaded Gingervillain from the above location,
added the zipped file to my SD card,
wiped the cache partition and wiped data/factory reset.
Installed zip from sdcard
pressed back button and selected reboot system now.

The new rom loaded up with the red eyes animation and went through the google sync options. I went to the market to see if the media message would come up, no message so i downloaded whatsapp which was fine until installing, then it reverted to the startup animation, and just repeated it over and over. The same happened when i powered off and turned back on, just the animation going through the cycles.

Any ideas?

thats odd, and you dont have these problems with the rom you have backed up?
this sounds like a heat issue like the cpu is goosed and is overheating causing bootloops. its a common issue on some of the earlier devices

if you keep it powered off and stick it in the fridge for 10mins then try and boot does it boot ok?

ok fridged it, tryed cyanogen again and google apps and all seems fine.. i dont want to turn it off now incase it freezes on the white screen again. Any idea on that specific issue? dont want to have to wipe everything evertime i turn my phone off.

how old is it?
did you buy it from new or second hand?

Im pretty certain you are suffering an overheating problem which will be covered by warranty if you are the owner of the device and it is using a standard ROM from HTC

this device is on a slippery slope and is simply rebooting when the cpu is put under load

EDIT: PVT1 device, pretty sure its come from a early batch that had overheating issues

Yeah I bought it from new last July in Singapore.

So what would you recommend? I suspect a one year warranty, so probably just out. Is a warranty void once you have rooted and flashed a custom rom?

warranty is void when rooted however you can flash and ruu and see if it has the same problem
if it does then you should be able to send it back to htc as they have 2year warranty

do you know if it was carrier branded or unbranded when you bought it?

I dont think its carrier branded.

So if i wanted to return it to stock or unroot i think there is a guide on here right

http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html

Should have followed this guide in the first place!
if you want to return it to stock go to the ultimate dropbox in my sig and download the RUU and run it from pc to flash the device back to stock
if you get a cid error its likely you were branded and well either need to find out what it was or create a goldcard to flash it

eitherway once thats done you can test it and see if it overheats and shuts down. if it does sent it back to htc for fix and theyll change the motherboard and cpu
