Root CM7, no internet, no camera

Once upon a time I used this website to customize my new Ascend. Long story very short, I messed it up. I am pretty sure I deleted some stock stuff, and since my computer that had all of the backups on it has died, I have no way of getting it back.

I've tried flashing back to stock, I've tried flashing to different roms, I've tried doing a factory reset, I've even tried loading the stock zipped rom from the sd card. Of all the methods that I tried, the only one that doesn't hang on the android screen is flashing a new rom - so I'm using CM7 for now. Everything else kills the phone, it never boots past the android screen.

My camera hasn't worked since I started messing with this phone when I first got it. Now, all of a sudden, my internet is having issues.
I have tried downloading the camera.apk, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I still can't use the bar code scanner, or a shopping list scanner thingy - everything says the camera had an unexpected error and/or the device failed to give access to the camera.

Going to RoM Manager, trying to download a different RoM to see if that'll help (I have paid for the premium) and I get the you must have CWM installed message. Okay, I wiped everything, that makes sense. Click the install and either nothing happens or I get the message can't get an internet signal. The browser will connect, if I click retry, retry, retry 20 times.

I really dont know if I can justify the cost of a new phone, seeing as I dont really need it - I just want it. Any chance someone could walk me thru fixing the signal and camera on this one? FYI, the 3g icon on the status bar shows connected.

Frustrated & confuzzled,
~Ky

Any time you have random things like this not working, a reflash is always recommended, making sure to wipe everything noted in flashing guides (boot, system, data, cache, dalvik cache, etc). I would suggest giving that a shot first, and see if that doesn't fix your camera and internet issues.

It's very odd that the flash back to stock process isn't working for you, although I couldn't tell you why this is happening. In case you didn't do this step, make sure you unzip the stock ROM and move the dload folder to the root of your SD card when you're trying to flash back to stock.

Okay, the other RoM's you choose the ZIP file off of your SD card so it wasn't until reading your reply that I thought to try unzipping it first. rofl ... yeah - my phone is now back to stock!!!! I just tried to make a call and it went thru fine, then I opened the browser & went to yahoo fine. Now to verify the market works, then I'm going to leave yall alone for a while. Thank you for making me feel like a NooB!! lol =)

Everybody has to start somewhere, my friend, no worries. A little over a year ago, I had no clue about modding phones either, and had never owned a smartphone before I got my Ascend. Now I'm far enough along to have purchased a used HTC Droid Incredible and, through the magic that is PST and a couple other fixes, gotten it fully flashed and working on MetroPCS! It just takes time and experience.
