Root CM7 vs ShiftAO5P/BlackSourc3

Given that I've fallen in love with AOSP, I've been using DT's various iteration of the CM7 build. But now that DT's has moved on to the Bionic, I'm contemplating making a switch to using just CM7 and ride the wave to the final build. It seems to be the most polished of all AOSP (note: I've not used any iteration of OMFGB/OMGB). Has anyone used all of the above ROMs care to weigh in? Will the experience of CM7 differ that much from Th3ory-based CM7?

Thanks. Have you used any version of the OMGB/OMFGB?
Yes, I have. It's been a little while but there is a definite difference. They have a 'god' mode that kind of simulates CM7 settings but not as versatile imo. I'm just not a fan of OMGB but they do have a lot of users that like it. If you have time to kill, it might be worth it to see what all the hype is about. There have been some audio improvements in the cm7 code, from what I understand, and once slayher commits them they will be rolled out into whatever aosp rom you are using. I know he's fighting with BT, not sure when that will be fixed or if he's waiting to fix it before he updates. We'll see soon enough.

BTW, another TB OTA leak is on the way if you can stand sense.

I broke down for 8hrs, flashed BAMF 1.0.6 and gave up. After getting used to the speediness of CM7, I couldn't handle the wait/lag of Sense. But I might try it again, probably when SkyRaider release his final, or maybe with a Bliss Rom.

Anyone else? Take your time ;)

I'm leaning toward committing to CM7, but I would like to hear from others on this forum.

CM is a good AOSP rom, it makes part of DT's base as well as all of liquid's base. I like CM and CM based roms much more than OMG based roms, really all it is would be CM settings vs god mode.

If you flash CM you will already be familiar with it due to you running ShiftAOSP/blackAOSP before. If you are going to try out an OMG rom then be sure to wipe /system before the flash just to be sure, if your phone is like mine then it will have issues going to OMG based after any other base rom.

:shudder: @issues

I really like DT's rom, but I'm not sure where the CM7 part ends, and where DT's stuff begins. If I use CM7, when Slayher's able to release the latest build, will I have to wipe everything as if going to a brand new ROM (a la OMGB) or could it be just an update?

Not to hijack a thread but since we are talking about AOSP ROMS and CM7 I thought i could ask this here instead of starting a new thread.

What kernal are you guys running with CM7 cause i cant even make it 12 hours with the one that came with it on very very light use!

Also can i flash a new kernal even tho i have been running cm7 for a few days now?

http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/412514-kernel-imoseyon-leankernel-3-7-0-a.html Can be used with CM7. I just flashed CM7 recently as well and I plan on changing kerels soon.. And yes you can flash a new kernel after you've been using it for a while. Just make sure it is an AOSP kernel and not a sense based one....

Ive been looking for leankernel 3.5.8. A lot of people have been running it and have had great success, but I can't find it anywhere :/

After using Imo's 3.7 kernel for 4days+ and seeing 10% drop in 2.5hrs everytime, I decided to go back to Tiamat 1.1.3. First day on it, down to 60+% after 12hrs of light use. We'll see how this will fair by the end of the week.

You can flash any kernel anytime you want. Just do three things before you do.

Re/Boot into Recovery
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik

And then flash the kernel you want.

I've been using AOSP/CM7 since 2.3.2 on my Eris probably a year ago and it has YET to change enough to care about keeping up with the latest changes. I'm still using shiftAOSP v2.1 (DSP, video sound, cant here me now are without issue unlike v2.2 and 2.3). I see no reason to switch from a working AOSP for another based on update schedule if nothing is broke, data connection is good and you like the speed unless you just have to have the latest usually meaningless to end user changes for the sake of having the latest. I understand there may be some interesting lock screen options in the latest CM7 source but I've had a metamorphed and flashed honey comb lock screen since the eris (now on Tbolt) which is better than anything I've seen as options in current AOSP/CM7 builds. The BIGGEST difference I've seen amongst AOSP are which launcher they choose to use but since I never use any of the built in launchers nobody could tell the difference from my various AOSP flashes without going into settings. I dont care if they call it CM, Liquid or Shift settings and I see no changes I care to make in any "store" that cant be done/found and put on any other AOSP rom.
