Root cm9 + twrp

Okay...so i used twrp to create a recovery file for my 10/25/12 cm9...apparently twrp formats system partition and causes the loss of root privileges problem G60 was talking about...anyone know which recovery is currently playing nice with cm9?

I was using that same version (5.5.0.4) until yesterday. I had backed up my Froyo (U9000) ROM three times over a period of about a week using 5.5.0.4 and then installed CM9 to test it out. When I tried to restore my Froyo ROM's from backup it would get hung at the Motorola logo. I changed the name of the backup's to ext3 and also corrected the filenames in the md5 hash file as well but I could never get any of the 3 backups to boot. I've updated to b_randon's CWM 6.0.1.5 but now I'm a bit skittish to try new ROM's as installing and setting up a ROM from scratch takes me hours and is definitely not fun heh.

Does anyone have any idea why the 5.5.0.4 ROM wouldn't restore from 3 different backups?

Oh, I also forgot to mention I restored the CM9 backup that I made right before deciding to back to U9000 and the CM9 backup did restore but all the settings were gone and it was as if I installed the ROM from scratch which is definitely odd. The backup I made had all the settings configured and apps installed.

I'm hoping that 6.0.1.5 is backing up whatever it is that 5.5.0.4 was missing / skipping.
