Root Cog v2.3b6 just flashed saturday

Since I've had a lot of help from this thread, I'm going to ask another question here:

What is "Overclock"?

Right. People do that on computers a lot, and it has carried over to our phones. There is a program called SetCPU where you can adjust the minimum and maximum processor use, including battery profile levels. Overclocking can make your phone run faster, and if done correctly, it won't hurt your phone. But if you don't do it correctly, you're basically forcing your processor to sprint faster than it wants to and it could damage the processor. With how fast Cog is running in 2.3b6, do you absolutely need it to run faster than it already is?

thanks to @crimsonpride's step to step help now i am pretty confident about flashing new roms and stuff. So I just flashed Perception build 5. Its really good. Very fast....dont know about battery as i just flashed it. But lets c...

One question to experts here tho. So when we will have official froyo, will there be any custom roms based on official roms?

I dont think I want to go back to stock roms again, my bro in law got official froyo in his mytouch and i had cog2.3be...and mine looks awesome :P

Perception 4 (also from DesignGears) is faster and better.

Grab it here.

I've had it for a little more than a day and am loving it. By far the fastest Captivate ROM around. Comes with a stock 1.2ghz overclock, too.

so i just loaded this rom and im impressed! i ran 2.3b6 for a bit and didnt care for it... didnt seem any better than b4 i was running? actually worse! my gps worked pretty good on b4, but sucked ballz on b6?
works great on the perception rom... everything seems fast.
but no swype keyboard? i was just getting used to it.. any way to add it?

Stock overclock: bad
ext2: even worse

Yeah, I'll pass. Not every CPU can handle OCing so just arrogantly assuming that is bad news for newbies trying out a ROM. And running ext2 is like driving without brakes or seatbelts because the lighter car goes faster. 17yo filesystem tech is old.

I agree, I actually flashed Perception build 5 and even tho it was very fast and my quadrant score went to 2250 but again i faced many problems like earphone not working and phnone freezing...I am back to Cog2.3be...its pretty good to have everything..

i dont really use earphones, so i guess i hadnt noticed... i havnt had any real probs, and it does feel fast!

I just flashed 2.3b6 in the last hour and working great so far.

Except for the fact I have to start Angry Birds all over again! :P

There have been frequent updates to Cog. It is one of the most actively updated roms currently for the Captivate. This is both good and bad. You know it is being supported/actively worked on, but at the same time, it means you feel compelled to update more frequently.

ROMs are very personal preference oriented, so I won't say one is "the best". You have to decide that for yourself, but once you have gotten comfortable with how to change roms, you can fairly quickly try half a dozen different roms and see which one meets your needs best.

Could you guys keep me/us posted on when there is a very significant update to Cog? I'm happy with how it is now, but if there is a big, important thing, post it up?

there r better roms running around on XDA now...Perception Build 8 and Assonance 3.1 are really good, they are based on i9000 and are reallu snappy...

Could you guys give me very specific directions on how to download either Assonance 4.3 or a Perception build from XDA?

I'm currently running Cog v2.3b6, would I have to flash back to stock?

How would I get and use Odin, or is it not needed?

I'd like to do this by using the Captivate's browser to install directly to the SD card.

Thanks a lot.

cognition has been updated and im thinking about going back to it
Download Cognition!

perception is still very good, its what im on now
