Root Cognition is AWESOME

IIRC, you want to Master Clear to keep old data files from carrying over into the new ROM as it can/will corrupt and make your new ROM unstable and possibly useless. Make sure everything is backed up before you MC.

Kona nailed it.

I personally use GSM Master Reset instead of Master Clear through ODIN. This is the code for GSM Master Reset:
*2767*3855#

Enter the above code like you would a telephone number.

Installed 2.3b5 tonight and got "Force Close" errors when using the volume settings, and when moving around other areas of the settings menus. Seemed pretty buggy.

I also didn't care for the scrolling applications menu. It just didn't feel very fluid to me.

Went right back to 2.3b4 which remains stable and quick. Just my .02 cents worth.

It was a clean install from stock. But I noticed 2 newer revisions right after I tried it. Gonna try the latest one again.

aaallright... i think im finally gonna flash a cog ROM! im on dg's AOSP beta 3 rom and loving it... gps works, gmail and regular email work (only wish it would work on wifi), has been stable and have been running this rom since dg released it! ive always wanted to flash cognition but never did.... seeing how the latest version is the "fastest and safest captivate rom" that sold me! especially seeing everyones post on how blazing fast it is and how ppl have good results! since i never flashed a cog rom and never had voodoo or any lag fixes, will it be a problem to flash? i can just flash from CWM correct? i also just read ppl dl the file straight to the phone? how so? i have to use parallels and run win 7 and dl the file and then drop to my sd card and then flash with CWM. i have never flashed to stock or used odin cuz i dont have native windows pc... ive read that ppl who flash cog usually flash to stock wit odin... do i need to? if i do then i guess i cant run cog! i would really appreciate ppls response to my question cuz i am ready to join the cog party!!!

so gps works great? everything else works great? can emails load on wifi (gmail and regular email)? wanna give v2.3b6 a go!

Flashed to 2.3 b6 last night. It is BEATIFUL (and super fast)! I LOVE the applications menu scolling thingy! :D

Haven't tested the GPS, but it seems pretty stable so far, and the battery consumption is great.

DG, you're amazing.

I don't really know enough to answer your questions, but I do always flash back to stock first. according to FAQ - Cognition Wiki, "GOING FROM 2.2B6 UPWARDS YOU CAN USE CLOCKWORK AS THE CORRECT RECOVERY IS INCLUDED IN 2.2B6 IF GOING FROM AN EARLIER THEN FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW" It sounds like I could go straight from one Cog to another. I don't know how it works coming from a different ROM.

Hope that helps

Yeah I'm running the 2.3b6 update and it is the best so far! Sent DG some beers.

If you are running the 2.2b6 or later, you can just use ROM Manager to update over the top most of the time. I had a couple situations where it didn't overwrite well, and it just constantly did Force Close on everything that tried to run on the first bootup. Just used one of the ODIN standalone releases to do a master clear and update via that method. That seems pretty clean.

On the plus side, once you have one of the Cognition releases on there, the ROM Manager method works really well and is super easy. You just download the Cognition via the browser on your phone, move the file to the root directory of the internal SD storage, and then run ROM Manager and select Install from SD. The ability to update the phone totally standalone without plugging in anything is pretty neat.

I'm having a weird issue on 2.3b6. Almost every time I load up the gmail app, it starts with the little welcome screen that usually only shows up the first time you load the app. I master cleared and restored to stock before flashing to 2.3b6, so I'm not sure what this could be.

Otherwise, I'm really happy with this ROM. Blazing fast. I'm not a big GPS user so can't comment on that.

Wow! This is my first ClockWorkMod ROM change. I did 2.3b6 over top of 2.3b4 and got a bunch of Forced Closes at boot. So I did the same routine over again, just the same but without checking backup ROM, (I had checked both backup and wipe before,) everything works great!

I am really impressed!

GPS seems to be much better though it seems to be guessing more often... like when it says to turn left on a coming turn, it shows me continuing on straight even though I have turned left like it asked.... So, in some ways better but in some ways curious. To be fair... I have an impression GPS is much better, but I have not tested it in real-world scenario yet.

Way to go dev!

I am a noob but I will figure out how to donate money...

Isn't that a hoot! It is easier for a noob to flash this ROM than to figure out how to donate! Ha. Now that is saying something!

PS. Still looking for BT voice-commands and triggers.:D

Has anyone from Canada tried Cognition?

I am a little hesitant because all in all my phone works very well. My only gripe is with battery life. I would not like to risk breaking my GPS for a few minutes of battery.

From what I have been reading Cognition is a huge improvement over AT&T's ROM, but what Rogers' ROM? Anyone knows?

Thanks!

I don't have all the answers to your question, but I'll say this...Rogers GPS appears to be better than AT&T. I'm actually running Rogers GPS files on my AT&T phone. So be warned, when you flash to Cognition, which at the moment does not have modified GPS files, your GPS MAY suffer.

I flashed my phone today and installed v2.3b6. Most everyone has talked about the phone having amazing battery life. Has anyone experienced the opposite? Under pretty normal use my phone used about 20% of the battery life in 2 hours.

Does anyone have any suggestions on why this may have happened? Thanks.

sometimes you need to reset your battery data. there are how to's on it but i dont remember off the top of my head. i usually just run my battery completely dead a few times and its fine after that

Thanks, I appreciate it. I had found a how to on reconfiguring the battery but that didn't seem to help. After some more looking I found a how to on how to calibrate the battery. Thus far that seems to have solved the problem.
