Help Common problem, cant find fix.

Zeroexe

Lurker
K So this seams to be a common problem. I searched and found alot of threads on this.

Baught myself i9100 in white. Nice phone.

problem: Overheats while being on and charging. Also, will not charge while being on to begin with.

Went into battery status. Heres my status:

Cell Standby: 89%
Android OS: 5%
Display: 3%
Phone idle: 3%

OK so its obvious whats killing my phone. Battery is being pwned by the Cell standby.

I live in a basement apartment. I got awsome reception with my old milestone 1 from telus. And my wifes Galaxy 1 gets ok reception. So i doubt its my phones cell auntenna boosting itself. Fresh phone got in new today. Didnt download any apps. tried battery pull.
Cell Standby still 89%.

Any thoughts?

Does not make sense for cell standby to be the highest. But I can tell you this, once I had the Android OS at 96%. I couldn't figure it out since usually its the screen that should be highest. Then I tap the Android OS and found that it was registering usage of up to 13hours whereas the phone was on after charging for only a couple of hours.

So here is what I think;

1) I was playing with the phone while it was charging which I suspect might have screwed up the readings / calibration a bit

2) After charging, by right all the counters should be reset, but somehow it did not for the Android OS, which I also suspect might be caused by me playing around while the phone is charging.

3) Rebooting the phone does not do anything since it does not reset the counters

4) The only way is take out the battery (and leave it out awhile), or to charge it again to 100% and maybe just to be safe, recalibrate again.

Hope your problems go away.

Cheers

Zeroexe... these new i9100s do heat up a little due to duo core cpus. Mine does too a little but it should not be extreme. Perhaps a faulty battery. As for your charging issue I dont know but I can shed a little light on your battery stats. Your battery stats are based on usage since it was unplugged. Just because your cell standby shows 89% usage, it means 89% of the battery drain since it was taken off of the charger even though you may have only drained the battery by a couple percent total. I use BatteryETA. It displays my correct battery level in the top bar. Keep in mind that a weak cell signal will drain your battery fast. You could try a hard reset to see if it resolves any thing
