Apps compile android

Hi,

To compile android source, I understand we need a cross compiler which is downloaded with android source tree. But I do understand why we need a gcc on linux machine? Isn't the cross compiler used to compile the code for ARM? what part of code actually is not compiled with the cross compiler?

The Android kernel is compiled for ARM architecture using a prebuilt version of gcc, which produces an ARM binary.
Are you trying to build the kernel, as described here -
