Completely freaked out after reading this forum

To the original poster:

People dont go to hospitals when they are healthy.

Only people who are seeking medical attention go to hospitals. If your dropped inside a hospital, you'll get the wrong picture that everyone in the neighborhood are also sick or hurt. The vast majority of people are healthy.

This analogy applies here in this forum, as well as any other forum for that matter.

There ya' go. Good analogy. I did a great deal of research and found more favorable impressions of the Captivate, than negative. This is my first Android and I am pleased. GPS is not a big deal for me. I am looking forward to Froyo :D. Enjoy your comm. cheaha bill

I lurked on the forums for a couple weeks before the release getting up to speed on Android. I picked up my phone on the release day and then I registered on here that weekend. I figured I would be joining in the Captivate love fest.

Instead I found that the GPS is just plain broken on this phone. Now I'm still pretty confident that it will get fixed, but it was released broken and its still broken now. I don't see at this point why someone would take the plunge to buy this phone hoping that it will get fixed at some point in the future when they don't have too. Why not wait a few weeks and see if Samsung actually fixes the thing?

Even Samsung admits that the GPS is "sub-optimal" at this point. I don't think that everyone else has to keep pretending that it works.
 
I'll agree the GPS is "sub-optimal" but to call it broken would imply that it doesn't function at all - and it does. And the new firmware makes it usable for the vast majority of people on a day to day basis with a little bit of tweaking.
 
I had the Captivate for about a week (purchased without a contract) and hoped it would be a very good Android phone but the "Version 1.0" model had too many flaws.

Samsung unfortunately released this phone without enough testing (yes, they're not the only company that does this). So I took the phone back and got a full refund without being charged the $35. restocking fee.

I still believe the Captivate will be a good phone and look forward to Samsung releasing updates but I won't try it again until it is upgraded to 2.2 and most of the serious problems are fixed.

Just my personal opinion.
 
Idk if it has been said(didnt feel like reading a bunch of threads)

but the reason the atmosphere in the Droid X forum is slightly different than here is probably a big reason...

I truly believe that many who own the captivate were former iphone users or ppl who didn't want to have an iphone....and a small percentage of them switched from other carriers to get this phone(i dont see many ppl doing this)

Given the large size of verizon and the way not only verizon has marketed Droid and the way their subscriber have embraced the OS, it's inevitable that their community is more vibrant and a lot more traffic....

Many of these owners are former Droid Owners, Droid Eris and even some iphone converts. I call the droid x community people Veterans(not all of them but a huge portion) just because they have plenty of experience with android devices and i think a lot of people here are still trying to learn(and trust me, i am still learning along with them)

I am considering jumping over to At & t for the Captivate or the Xperia 10
but it seems like one phone has a huge downfall with it's lack of multi-touch and Outdated os(xperia) and the captivate has issues of it's own as well...

So i will be a regular here and hopefully i can learn a lot more about this phone and the Xperia

I agree. I do believe that the captivate has much better specs than the x10 (from the little reading Ive done), but I also do agree with your statements about droid and verizon. This forum in particular has a lot of people who just make the same posts again and again, all they do is complain and blow off steam. If you check out the xda forums, you will see much more developement, helpfulness, and a much more positive attitude.
 
I've had this phone since it was released and I love it. I have more than enough friends with iPhones to know what those are like, and I'm a recent convert from Symbian. So far I'm really impressed with it overall.
 
gotta say I work for the evil fruit company and being eyephone from day 1 I now own a captivate. Was an easy switch for me. The amount of free apps in droid market #1 compared to apple market was amazing.

Another was the amazing screen.

A lot of people complain of gps issues. I have not had a gps issue since day one on 3g nor on wifi it pin points me exactly.

I have rooted my phone and have the global market app also and do have apps from other providers as well, this is a great phone.

Seeing as I work for the fruit company I expected it to be a hard sell to change phones, it wasnt the captivate is a better phone than the 3gs or 4 any day.

One of the other features I loved, is I can develop for it without buying a Mac & paying and hoping that Apple will approve of any App I create.
 
Really, there is nothing to freakout about the phone it a awesome phone. yes like everyone is saying there are some little issue but maybe things that you may not even use. but really its a phone!!! gps? hmm do you know your way around? if so you won't need it.
for me I had issue with emai- but I think i got that taken care off, I think will update (email issue thread) in a couple of day for monitoring my fix and will post of result..

every droid out there even the Iphone has issue. it is up to you my friend what you will be happy with, as but for me i am set.

fyi: I too bought the phone from wirefly, hell it is much easier fixing my issue then purchasing the phone from them (outsource rep), hard to understand. ha ha ha.
but they do have great deals..

You need to do what's right for you and not worry about other people's issues. I like my phone, it works great and I don't have a single regret. The GPS doesn't work well as everyone says but it's a phone, not a dedicated GPS receiver. No phone I've seen is as good as simply getting a dedicated GPS receiver. When I need GPS, I use my receiver.

Also, every forum I've been on for some product was full of bad news. People don't tend to go online and talk about things that work nearly as much as they talk about the things that don't work and look for help. So forums tend to be skewed to the problems as people seek help that are having them while most of those with no problems don't bother.
