Help Completely frozen screen, can't even switch it off

I've had my Hudl for over a year now and never had any problems up until now. All of a sudden, I find the screen totally unresponsive, the power button works, but anything that requires input from the screen (inc selecting power off from the menu) won't work. I can reset the device with a paper clip, but it still comes up with the same error when I reboot.

Any ideas? I can into recover mode, but would prefer not to do a factory reset unless absolutely necessary.

If you are saying that the physical buttons work but the capacitive screen doesn't register touches, you may have a bad digitizer (the glass over the display that senses your finger). That's a hardware failure. No reset will fix that.

If you can get into recovery, then try clearing the caches first. If that doesn't work, a factory reset is certainly worth a try, because if that doesn't work, then it's time for a new screen. :(

Been away for a couple of days so only just had a chance to try this. Clear Cache, problem still there. Factory Reset problem still there. So it must be hardware related. I've never heard of screens completely packing up like this. What causes this?

Could be anything. These circuits are at times on the molecular level and a bump, or extreme change in conditions can break the connection enough to ruin it. Moisture? Just a bad manufacturing day at the plant, i don't know that it really can be determined on a case basis.
