Help Composing long emails nearly impossible

aero23

Lurker
When composing emails that grow long enough to require the text to start scrolling, it begins to lose control over being able to place the cursor where you tell it to. Start typing even more and it gets to the point where the text is no longer in view at all (at the bottom of thte email) while you're typing. At this point if you put the cursor back up near the beginning to fix a typo the only way to get it back to the end is with the magnifying glass but then the keyboard pops up and covers where you're typing - it won't scroll it into view.

OK - I just tried to recreate this problem with a new message and also as a reply to a long email chain which is typically where I run into this issue and of course was not not having nearly as much trouble as I usually have. Something's up but I don't know what.

Does anyone have any experience with this issue and have any pointers? I'm not really up to setting up a different emailer - I have my own Gmail account and a corporate synch to Outlook as well.

Thanks .

I ran into this problem about a week ago. I use the stock email app (the one with the letter "e" on it). I typed a long email and as long as I kept typing, I could see what was being typed. But when I got near the end, I went back up to the top of the page to re-read what I had typed and when I tried to get back down to the end of the message, I couldn't do it. I finally gave up and cancelled the message and re-typed it. I just tried to re-create the issue myself and I couldn't get it to do it again, so hopefully it was just a temporary thing.

Yeah, I don't know what's up. It seems every time I respond to an email chain it happens, EXCEPT for that one time when I tried recreating it for this thread. Grrrrrrr. I always end up breaking my message up into multiple emails because of it.

Anyone know anything about this?

I was just thinking something else that might work would be to use your down arrow key to scroll down to the end of the message. I didn't think about trying that when I had the problem before the one time. On my phone currently I have SwiftKey keyboard as well as the stock multi-touch and Swype keyboards. The SwiftKey and the Swype keyboards both have arrow directional keys. As far as I know, the stock multi-touch keyboard doesn't. Several other alternative app keyboards also have arrow keys. If you get stuck again, you might try that (and let me know if it works).

Well, ran in to this again. This is really something the Android developers need to fix if they want to have a product useful to anyone other than a a teenager. The emailer on here is absolutely useless to anyone trying to work on the road. I hope developers read these forums and that they're not here just so people can gripe to each other and waste time. I am an engineer trying to communicate with a major component manufacturer and sometimes this is my only immediate means of communication, but it doesn't work.

No - the arrow keys don't solve the problem because the problem is the text will not scroll into view. You can scroll to the very top and the very bottom, but in an email chain it is the middle you need to get back to and in that case it WILL NOT do it.

This really is one of those cases where you provide something but it does the job so poorly that in cases like this, it is pretty much no better than not having it all.
