Help computer keeps deleting folders that i add to my droid

hey guys, i've been having a little problem with my Droid X.
when i plug it into the computer, open it as a device and add a "new folder" to it, the folder and all its contents will remain there just fine, but once i unplug and plug it back in, the folder and everything in it will disappear. the folder/files will still be on my droid, but just won't show up on my computer...anyone know how to fix this?

Is it a Windows computer? Mac? Linux?

If it's Windows, do you have any restrictions set up in user permissions? Are you the administrator? Do you have folder options set up in the tools menu properly?

I'd go through all settings having to do with drives and folders on the machine.

yes i'm an admin and yes i have access to everything. it only does this with my droid, all my other usb devices work fine.
