Help computer won't recognize phone

Hi there,

My computer is suddenly not recognizing my phone when I connect it via USB. I downloaded the driver and have connected it in the past without issue, but now - nothing. Tried rebooting both, tried different ports, etc. The phone just starts charging when I plug it in, and that's it.

Every other post I can find is for a different phone or a slightly different situation, and the solutions point to menus and options I don't actually have on my phone.

Any ideas? Windows 7, my phone's not rooted or anything like that, using the USB cable that came with the phone... let me know what other info you need. Thanks!

Have you tried turning the PC off, then plug in the phone and turn PC on?

Well, I have now - thanks! I did not know that was a thing.

Oddly enough, the USB icon showed up on my phone as soon as my PC started back up (before Windows started) but then disappeared again pretty much as soon as the start-up process completed.

I left it connected while I gawped and fretted, and 5 full minutes later (of me not doing anything that could've helped), it recognized the connection again. Since then it's working just fine. I've just never seen anything like this before.
