Help concerned about getting this phone

i'm an htc hero user, and now an android user for life. i'm looking at this phone but cautious. i've had a couple lg "dumb" phones in the past and they were horrible. they started out nice but were degraded beyond repair within a month or so. also i live in the boondocks of eastern nc, and reception is spotty with any phone. anybody have any experience with that? any input is appreciated.

also on another note, there's no "all things root" forum for this phone. has anybody successfully rooted it? i rooted my hero and don't see myself going back to a phone i can't root.

I've never, ever had a problem with an LG phone. If you use the hero this thing will feel like a dream to you. It has to be at least 4x more responsive than that failure of a device :)

LG makes a good. My wife had an LG EnV 2 for over 3 years. Rock solid. LG is just sort of new in the smartphone business. The LG Ally was.not. huge success, nor was it a total flop. It looks like they learned a lot with that experience. The Optimus S is a solid phone. It's a sign of good things to come.

LG is a little late in android game, but they will soon catch up HTC and very serious on it. They have decent display technology in house too. Next year we will soon see high end android phones from LG going head to head with HTC, Samsung.

I have a hero.. and rooted.. with android 2.2

I am not sure if this phone is enough of an upgrade to be worth it.
i tested it out at the sprint store. it is much more responsive.

same screen size
not much more memory
smaller camera
no camera flash
no front camera

I love how the hero has such a large dev backing.
This phone dev community is very small.

Just not sure I want to use my yearly upgrade on this!

I do think the optimus is a better choice then the Hero for someone wanting a new android with sprint (at least for someone that doesn't want a keyboard or the cost of an EVO).

But if you've already got the hero I'd say wait. I'm guessing sprint will be announcing new high-end phones at CES in January and release them sometime in the first quarter.

Buy and Evo / Epic, sell it slightly under full retail and pay cash for this phone while pocketing $100+.

im a HUGE HTC fanboy, but have to say, im very impressed with this LG. I also came from a hero running 2.2 and this thing just simply blows it away!!

Not to mention there is already a rom out for it, and its been only a few weeks... Im hoping that shows there will be a decent following
