Concerned About IMEI Number Sent To App Developer by Email

Hi Everyone, so today I updated Camscanner Pro from the Play Store. After I opened the app to check out the new features, I decided to send them some feedback within the app. So I go to the settings, with in the app, and tap feedback, help, error. I type my suggestion and press send. Well my message I typed, opened up in my gmail as a new email to send to the developer. I noticed it contained my device model, IMEI # Device jflteatt, version name and UID. So I started to block everything except, my model # and went to delete it, but hit send instead. Needless to say, I wasn't able to recall the email.

I replied to the original email, I sent to them asking them to delete my emails and the reasons why. Should I be concerned about this and should I do anything else? I know the IMEA # is like a social security #. Thanks

If you edit your first post it lets you edit the title
So did the email contain the whole imei or was the end of it like **********?
I dont see why a dev would need your whole imei but i think the first few numbers identify what device it is

Yes, its the entire number. I did some more checking and it appears that an error report was generated as well. (Even though I wasn't trying to report a problem.) Is it normal to need this info. if I was trying to report a problem?

On to your question, though, there's a pretty good post on StackExchange that lays out what can actually be done with knowledge of your IMEI: privacy - What is the risk of leaking IMEI / IMSI numbers over a network - Information Security Stack Exchange

Hope this helps!

Thanks. This was very helpful. I guess I'm just a bit concerned because this is the first time an app has generated my IMEI. I haven't seen any reports of problems from other users of this app. Who knows, the app might have already had this info. in the first place since its a scanner app that can fax too.
