Configure Hardware Buttons - can it be done?

I am a new Droid user. I have the Samsung Stratosphere. My old Blackberry had a hardware button that aloud me to mute/unmute the phone very quickly while keeping the phone on my ear listening to the conversation.

I spend a great deal of my time traveling and on the phone with clients. I would like to be able to configure a h/w button on my phone to be a mute button. Is this possible?

Right now when asked a question during a phone call I have to pull the phone away from my face, touch the volume button to wake the phone back up, then select the mute button. This is not ideal.

Well, if you get the hang of things pretty easy, check out this thread. Should point you in the right direction.
