After sending an E-mail to HTC regarding 2.3, i got this email just now.

Dear Warren,

We are excited to announce that the Desire HD will receive the Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in Q2 2011. Stay tuned for details as we get closer to the update availability.

Q2 means like...anytime now, right? ahhh it fells good to know we don't have to wait till late june like originally assumed.

Bah, I read those words, I only think of the Suggs cover :(

Being pessimistic I expected 2.3 later anyway, if it comes sooner then yay!
 
i am new to HTC, my phone is using 2.2.1, will the OS update automatic?

You'll need to make sure your phone is set to update automatically.

Settings > About Phone > System Software Updates. Put a tick in the box which says Scheduled Check.
