Hey guys!
I've never owned a smartphone, and after a bit of research, I've decided that an Android would be the best for me.
I've been searching around for Androids in my price range, and the best one for me seems to be the Sony Ericsson Xperia X12 Arc. But before I purchase it, I just wanted to make sure that it could do everything I was hoping for.
I'd be using my Arc for music, and I was wondering how simple/easy it is to add music to the phone, what formats are supported, and which app player is best (default, or a nice free app, preferably).
Also, a big thing I would be using my Arc for would be videos. I have a lot of video files, but they don't seem to be in the format that Androids generally accept. MKV and AVI, mostly. Now I could convert them all using handbrake, but this process takes so long; I'd rather avoid it.
I stumbled upon a good looking free video player app called MX Video Player. If I wanted to play movies using this, how would I put the files onto my Arc? Just connect it via the USB cable to my computer, and then transfer them into a folder named "Videos"?
The Arc comes with an 8GB microSD card. Do you think this is enough storage? I was thinking of buying an additional 16GB card, but I'm not entirely sure I would need it. I could manage my files and keep it under 8GB I suppose, but does anyone with experience feel this is a bit restricting? Would I be better off just buying the 16GB card and be done with it?
Finally, are there any major flaws that the Xperia Arc has? Anything that it simply cannot do compared to other Android phones? I'm not too fussed about having the latest technology, and I think Dual Cores would be wasted on me (plus they're so expensive). The other options I was looking into were the Samsung Nexus S, and the HTC Desire S. Right now it seems like the Xperia Arc stands above them, but does anyone disagree? I'd love to hear from you.
