Root confused and want to do it right

Ok so I got my Evo and was anxious to root so did it first thing before doing anything else. Now it seems so much requires that you S-Off that I want to do things right. Do I need to go back to stock completely and S-Off first or can it be done from the rooted state? I want to be able to update the radio and flash some ROMs that require S-Off. Any help is good. Thanks!

From what I've read around here, a lot of people including me, have had success with s-off with the Harmonia Rom. Now, if that's a risk you're willing to take then go for it!

The unlimited team has their specific instructions which include s-off before root. Like Josh said, many people are getting s-off just fine on rooted stock roms.

You will likely be okay, just be warned that the unlimited.io support will refuse to help you if you didn't follow their instructions exactly.

I used harmonia for mine in late December.....so if it hasn't updated since then it should work fine.......I distinctly remember harmonia being crossed out in their instructions but I did it anyways and it worked first try

The current version of the controlbear utility on the unlimited.io website is v0.11 dated 11/12/2012. My guide on XDA includes v0.8 dated 9/24/2012 in the all-in-one file and still roots before gaining S-OFF but that procedure wouldn't be supported by unlimited.io. I have a post that explains the option of downloading the current version and following the instructions on the website if they need support from the unlimited.io staff.
