confused but happy with VOLT and 4G

Just got my Volt a few days ago. Had been unhappy with the HTC One V which seemed to be ponderously slow especially in the absence of a wifi connection.
One store I work at is in the Kingston NY area. There is no wifi available there.
Today I found the Volt did well and the notification line said LTE all day.
I believe that means that I was receiving data on the 4G network.
It worked fine and I'm very happy with that.
BUT, when I visited Sprint.com and checked its coverage area it looks like 4G is not available in and around Kingston.
So what might be up with that?

Sprint will turn on towers to test them and make sure they're working weeks or months before LTE is official in an area. You're likely enjoying that right now. Coverage and signal strength should be even better when your area is a "real" LTE location :)

i was on vacation 260 miles north of my hometown where there is no service and spark was getting me 10mbit down / 6mbit up..... that is faster than where I live.... but in the city of detroit there is no data service what so ever and most of michigan 3g only gets 5-10kbs so spark is necessary to be able to use any VM phone
