Root Confused over root

I rooted my phone a while back simply to use barnacle wifi tether.

Now I'm trying to do some custom ROMs, and my phone is telling me it's not rooted (both barnacle and titanium backup won't work). I never unrooted the phone. The only thing I've done since rooting it is apply the OTA GB update. I was told this doesn't remove root. What's the deal?

Update killed your root. Root it again.
