Help Confusing SD Device notifications

Hi there: I bought a new LG Optimus phone 2 months ago and have started to receive a lot of notifications regarding my SD Device status. The two common notifications read something like: " SD Device is now safe to remove" or "SD Device was recently removed". To be honest, I barely know what the SD Device is; but, I'm pretty sure I haven't been removing it from my phone. Does anybody have any idea why I am receiving these notifications (usually ~2x daily) or what I can do to fix the issue??

the SD device is your micro SD card. Do these notifications appear at random? Or after you do something?

My wife's 7" tablet uses the following names:
sdcard = internal storage
nand = sdcard slot on the side of the device
scsi = pendrive inserted into USB slot on the side of the device

It's kind of irritating.
