So what is the determination for "beats" audio? I know that if I use the beats headset the phone selects the beats audio assuming I am using the stock player. However when I connect the phone to the car via a cable which happens to be a monster cable it also uses beats performance.

You can use Beats(DSP) with anything as long as you use the stock music player. It won't activate the DSP in anything else. However I use Google Music along with DSP manager and can achieve the same bass and sound enhancement without Beats.

^ not sure how it determines who gets Beat... but if i'm guessing correctly... anything plugged into the headphone port gets it!! My nordictrack eliptical coat hanger tree gets Beats too!!
