Help Connect to PC - cannot find resolve

I appear to be one of many experiencing a problem connecting their phone to their pc (not Thunderbolt specific). I simply cannot mount it as a hard drive. I've searched and have found a number of suggestions... none of which worked for me... but am hoping that someone out there in android land can offer some other possible solution. Here is where I am at right now:

Connect to PC:
Default connection type - Disk Drive
Ask me - selected

Applications | Development:
USB debugging - not selected

I have tried different variations of these setting when plugging my phone into the computer with the supplied USB cable. I've also tried different variations using a different USB cable. In all cases, I never receive the prompt to select a connection option. I also never receive the ability to select anything from the pull down menu.

When the phone is plugged into the computer, the phone does receive a charge (and it gets very warm when charging this way) . I've also noticed that when viewing Device Manager and plugging the phone in, the Device Manaager window may reload at times (not every time). I am not able to identify anything new appearing in the Device Manager when this happens... and I'm not able to locate anything device specific to uninstall in the Device Manager.

This phone did indeed mount as a hard drive on a Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista Business machine, as well as an iMac. All of these computers no longer recognize the phone. I even installed HTC Sync on the Windows XP Pro machine... but HTC Synce doesn't even recognize the device. It just tells me to plug my phone into a USB port.

I performed a factory reset last week, with hopes of correcting this. It did not. I am now out of ideas and VzW wants to perform yet another factory reset, which I am not sold on it making a difference. According to them, this needs to be done before they will provide a replacement... and I'm not really sure I want a replacement anyhow. My phone is in mint condition and everything else works flawlessly. I guess I am just holding out that there still may be hope in resolving this.

Anything that you can suggest would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and efforts.

It sounds like there is a hardware problem with the usb connection on the phone. This will be covered under warranty.

This sounds about right. If you've tried different computers and no luck then the only constant is the phone itself. A restore has eliminated any software issue so it's definitely pointing towards the hardware. Can you inspect the USB port and the USB cable to make sure you don't have any bad connections? Has anything happened to the phone between the time it last worked and the time it stopped working (maybe dropped, exposure to water, exposure to other harsh elements)?

Good luck with a refurb. I'm having to send back my 2nd refurb because it has some quality issues, glass wasn't seated correctly....

I've pretty much babied the phone. No moisture or impacts to report. I will take a gander at the usb port, but I doubt it can do anything to change what it may or may not be doing.

I do pay for some sort of insurance. Any chance that this combined with warranty get me a new replacement?

I appreciate everyone's responses.

It's doubtful that they'll combine your warranty and insurance to get you a new one. Unless the insurance is specific phone insurance that offers a new replacement. I'm guessing it's not in which case, join me in refurb hell....where every few days you're greeted by a Fed-Ex delivery person that wants you to sign things....
