Connecting DVD writer to Note 10.1

According to Samsung website and the information in the box of Samsung's own DVD writer SE-218BB/RSBS it should work with android tablets running 3.1 or above. But it doesn't work as advertised. I contacted their customer services more than two weeks ago and followed it with e-mail. Unfortunately I get connected to their Cairo office where the service is poor and manned by rude and arrogant people. Repeated calls and e-mails got nowhere,.I was told it is under investigation.
Anyone here using this combo please answer.

If Samsung guys reading it please answer why you don't answer e-mails and resolve this issue.

What exactly is it doing/not doing? It will be easier to answer with more info

It doesn't work. A pop up message says high powered device connected. Then DVD switch itself off.

does the dvd player use power from pc when it's connected (usb only connection), if so the dvd player may require more juice than the note can provide
