Help Connecting School Email

Rinjy

Lurker
I looked through the forms but couldn't find help regarding my specific phone. I had trouble connecting and importing my school email to my Samsung Stratosphere Android.

I go to SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) And our email is through ZIMBRA, however a friend told me they used the IMAP setting and it worked.

Account Setup Type IMAP
Username --------@student.scad.edu
password
IMAP server student.scad.edu
Port 143
Security Type None
IMAP path prefix, optional

Those of the settigns Ive been currently trying. But it says Authentication Error or that the Server Connection Times out.

you'll probably have to check with the school's IT Dept. They have the ability to block this kind of stuff to control what devices can receive email.

I contacted our Schools IT service, and they said that its enabled and allowed for all mobile devices. So that currently isnt my problem.

I also followed Zimbra's WIKI step by step in order to set up an exchange e-mail and it still doesn't work.

ok, you verified that the service is enabled but did you verify what the settings should be? If its failing on authentication, then its either (1) reaching the servers and failing on your credentials or (2) not reaching the servers at all because the IMAP settings are incorrect.

Did you get those settings from your friend, or your school?

I had some trouble setting up at my university as well, until I found that not all students had the same IMAP incoming mail server. I had to go through our webmail portal to get details specific to my account. Might be something you want to check.

Your school's IT dept might also have a webpage for this. I did a quick google search given your school name, and this came up.

It's not for your phone specifically, but the mail settings should stay the same. I was a little suspicious of your port # in your post.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Tried setting a different port or checking the security box or changing security type (which might automatically change the port number for you) ?

Might also be worth trying a different server, like imap.scad.edu , a service scan of that shows that port 143 is open for Imap traffic (though not sure if Zimbra is blocking, have no experience with it )

IMAP - 143* OK IMAP4 ready
* BYE Zimbra IMAP server terminating connection

you should be good to go with these settings!
