Help Connecting to 3G/3G Microcell

Lurker
I just purchased the Nexus S, as I had a iPhone 3G as my work phone. I put the SIM card in the Nexus S and everything seems to work except for the fact that I never see the 3G icon at the top of my phone but the E (Edge) is always there. Is there something else that I have to do to get 3G coverage on this phone? I never had any problems using 3G on my iPhone but for some reason I can't connect to 3G on my Nexus S.

Also, my office has a 3G microcell in our office and when I had my iPhone it would tell me when I was connected to the microcell. Since I'm using the same SIM card, shouldn't I be able to connect to the microcell with the Nexus S?

If you're using your old AT&T sim, then thats the reason. The Nexus S doesn't support AT&T's 3G frequencies. It supports 1700 and 2100MHz, while AT&T uses 850 and 1900MHz. EDGE is the best you'll get from it with an AT&T sim card.
